I have EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 with driver version dated July 2019. I would update but I recently heard how latest drivers caused drop in performance on GeForce video cards.

Which of the following drivers should I update to and does anyone know whether I should update to "Game Ready Driver" or "Studio Driver". Thanks.

Maybe you should research before asking questions like this. Firstly, the performance drop you've mentioned is miniscule (less than 1.5%), secondly, it affects only RTX 3080/RTX 3090 cards.

Lastly, normally the latest drivers are the best in terms of stability/bugs/etc.

You don't really deserve your nickname, TechnicGeek. A geek wouldn't have had this question in the first place.

Haven't had any performance downgrading whatsoever on my 2060 Super all the way from 441.xx to 452.06 which I'm on now. Performance has improved for me in MW 2019 and No Man's Sky. Don't fix what ain't broke so don't update if you're not having any problems, but if you're playing recent titles it's kinda stupid to buy into that "performance downgrading" paranoia as sometimes the brand new games are unstable or literally unplayable without complementary drivers.

IIRC 441.xx was particularly horrid for me. Random artifacting while idle in Chrome, absolutely insane artifacting of all varieties in MW 2019. Later drivers from November onwards (442.xx I think) fixed it all for me.

There will sometimes be a subpar driver release from Nvidia, just roll back and wait for the next WHQL game ready driver and chances are issues will be gone.

I know several people with GeForce 20xx series video cards who had performance drop after updating to latest drivers. I am also proponent of not fixing something that works.

I always use the latest drivers just to make sure things fresh and up to date.
Never hurts and you can always switch back if you feel you do not like them.

Just get the latest game ready driver if you are gaming and you’ll be good to go! :)

There have been many conspiracy theories over the years that NVIDIA deliberately nerfs performance of all but the newest card family.

They have been proven wrong in every test I am aware of. The reality is the drivers, being the interface between the Operating System and the hardware of your GPU can only do so much. Eventually no more improvement in performance can be made in the hardware.

So, there is a difference between hurting performance or just not being able to improve it anymore. Your 2060 is not really outdated yet and is not at the point that it cannot receive any improvements through driver updates yet, IMHO.

*I personally just stay on a really good driver for awhile, only updating about 3 times per year, but that is just me.
