Which Setup is best for gaming?..

You can and will always be able to run Blizzard games on a fucking toaster because they are so super optimized and so mainstream that even our granny should be able to run it proper.

Let's not fool ourselves, any mid range rig will run all titles just fine. Some even at 120 fps such as Diablo 3.

You're blowing way too much money on this considering what you want - which is striking as you then say 'until I can afford' a new screen.

?!?!?

My advice: do a little bit more research and google some benchmarks on your favorite games on recent video cards. The CPU: get a Skylake i5 as a base CPU and go from there. You need some basic understanding if you're gonna pick parts or you'll be making the choices you had in the OP, which means 1k bucks down the drain if not more (consider the time/effort versus that price difference, I don't think many people get that salary per hour :)). Also given your budget, aim for a sweet spot of 75 *minimum FPS* so you will always have 60 FPS even in the worst case scenario. That's the kinda headroom you'd want, not much more - it is much more cost efficient to do an upgrade later on when you need it.

Now if you want 144hz/144fps gaming, stick to 1080p because at 1440p and games over the internet, that will be a struggle more often than not, and the bottleneck can be everywhere depending on the game in question. However you can also have lower fps targets like 100 or 80 fps on those panels and it will still improve the quality of the experience. Consider those options and what you really want to go for, then build something that covers that.

Just keep in mind, that 'overkill' performance is wasted performance, wasted money, and a wasted budget on future upgrades that will provide you a longer term advantage.

If it's a solid choice between either one system or the other, just go with whichever is cheapest. If you can open those choices up a bit, start with an i5 6600k for gaming. Pick any 2x8GB DDR4 kit and z170 motherboard, and I would stick with any GTX1080 for that monitor you're planning on getting.

Do tell..................

Forgot about Battlefield (3) multiplayer with high player counts? You got CPU bottlenecked. Or try The Division right now on 1440p and see if you can get that 120+ FPS out of it. I know I can't, even with OC, and the cause is a CPU bottleneck. Even a 1080 can't push 120 frames there at stock (it does 108 average or something).

Point being, especially in the games where you can use the competitive advantage, 1440p/144hz is harder to achieve while at the same time a higher resolution also incurs a competitive penalty.

As mentioned, don't buy a founder's edition.

And your CPU will be wasted if it's just gaming. You can save a lot of money by realsticically choosing components instead of just selecting top of the line.

So if i got a, lets say 34" 4k IPS screen.. you'd not go with GTX 1080 ? :p
That's actually what I was saying, get a GTX 1080 for that. Probably not a founders edition though, save some cash. 4k is gonna be rough on it regardless though...

I did forget about a game 2 generations old in BF3...yes. people still play that?!!

The Division though, I am with you.

The point is, titles that behave like that are clearly few and far between. Certianly a consideration, but, more of an anomaly than a rule as you made it out to be. ;)

I'm thinking that i'm going with the X99 if i can get an Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080 in it ! :D

We gave you our opinion, it's up to you to decide.
I'm glad you came back to let us know your decision.
We would not mind a few pictures when it arrives.

Tbh, i asked a lot of my friends.. Some of the clueless as to what i was talking about. Others telling me it's overkill for what i'm going to use it for..
But my final judgement fell on the X99 because it's the one i saw 6 months ago and started saving up for.. and the most secure "upgrade able"-ish.. IF they ever make games run on more than 4 cores :P and it's only like 1200 Danish DKK more than the other one... it's not that much.. so why not. :)

Talked with the provider and they say i can get an Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080 in it.. So i guess i'll do..

About pictures.. doubt there's gonna be much to see, but sure ! :D

Guys, you are not reading what the OP said, he said that those are 2 PRE-BUILT system, hes not looking to build and his friend cant build one for him.
Edit: edited most of the post cuz' i didnt read.
@Morten d'Arc great choice anyway :D and yes go for the asus strix!
