im very happy with my Q8400. its very fast at 3.6ghz and i can notice a big improvement in games.

im hoping that i can keep it till another 2 years or more.

now i dont have to worry about the recommended requirements of some games that asks a Quadcore.

Your Q8400 should be able to run games for atleast the next coming 2-3 years well.

Another 2 years at the minimum as the C2D E8xxx and E7xxx and powerful CPUs. On my 2nd rig, i'm running an e7500 at stock speeds with a HD 5750 which is playing almost 95% of the games on very high settings.

crysis 2 will have lower requirments then the original crysis so meh maybe if they code it better things will work out better for all then again its a console game as well so i suspect it will still run like crap

Console ports don't need 3 cores.

It would make sense really, considering consoles generally have more hardware threads to play with than modern PCs. Maybe not the raw, per core strength, but console games are pretty typically well threaded.

any quadcore is more future proof than the fastest dual core.

sure, my Q8400 has low cache, but it can be highly overclocked and more future proof for programs and applications just because it has more extra cores.

proof: Go see the benchmarks for Bad company 2, GTA 4, The Risen.

in just cause 2, there is a nice improvement when you are in front of huge buildings on a quadcore.

i hope that my overclocked Q8400 compensates for the games that are more GPU heavy till i can buy a 5850. right now i have a 4850.

should i wait for next gen cards for ATI or Nvidia or just save up and buy a 5850????

there are a few games that are faster on any quadcore than the fastest dualcore.

Dragon age is yet another Quadcore title.

It can help but it also depends on what resolution you are gaming at. I think the point that some are trying to make is that even in 2010 only 1 in every 8 or so games are multi thredded, we should also remember that some new i3 dual cores may have only 2 cores but they have 4 threads which of course will help. Even now some "multi threaded" games actually only use 2 or 3 which is why lots of people in some forums ask the question with regard to crysis 2..... what is best, a dual core at 4gig with a 5850 or a quadcore at 3.6 with a 4850 (for example), personally i would take the system with the strongest graphics card because even with a game that uses more than one core/thread, the graphics card still does the bulk of the work (Relatively)..... just a personal opinion of course.
