I think Windows 7 was when they started stripping cruft out of the kernel wasn't it?
I don't remember. Maybe? Maybe SP1..

NOTHING will make Vista worth it.
Clearly you never used Vista SP2. The SP2 version was delightful. In credit to microsoft, fixed up everything with SP2.
Everyone hated Vista
I didn't, but I'm crazy like that. I'm one of those people that loved WinME and knows(still) how make it run right. But I digress...

I suppose the denial of reality in your reply can be only explained by the fact that you're still salty about that other thread and you argue on autopilot. Oh, well ;)
Are you done being a troll?

After carefull consideration I will try linux, cause windows 11 is crap, windows 10 is ok, but still not ideal, so I will go and check how bad/good is Linux :) (Games that I play are gold or platinum on proton db, and software is ok). If windows only 10 but without bloat. (In work we were using windows 7 till 2024, and it was ok for work with antivirus).
About vista I agree with lexluthermiester after updates it was ok system, even for me windows 8 was ok after updates, gui was stupid, but system ok.

I don't understand why all the hate for Windows 11 I've have had no problems with it the only thing I find a prick to uninstall is Edge so it's a rename a reboot and a delete now it's gone it's easy peazy to debloat not that there's is much bloat if you're using Pro or Enterprise

I'm using windows 11 ltsc, and it is not as snappy as win 10. (it's subiective, but for me it is unbearable. )

The windows 11 pro hate?

~A week ago a refuribsh laptop had a defective speaker. Searching to bypass the microsoft online account. Several reboots. Than speaker dead.

~Just got the replcement laptop. This time i disabled WLAN, WAN, Ethernet. The windows 11 pro installer greets me with you need to provide a Network Driver first to complete the setup.

Everytime I have to complete 90% of the setup assistant and I have to wait for reboots. And Wait - and Wait.

W 11 pro - no support For English United Kingdom during install.

-- Yesterday I downloaded and installed the udpate package again for my desktop computer. The windows 11 pro update package for windows 11 pro needs an active internet connection. Else it will not isntall. 3 or 4 update packages in a row. An offline pacakge does not install.

Broken black and white mode

broken amd gpu driver

Broken usb support - no usb mouse during cold boots and warm boots a few days ago.

pcgh has every ~two weeks average one bad windows 11 news.

-- The user interface is bad. The setting dialog is bad. The file browser is bad. No driver with the windows installation. No software with the windows installation. Bad backgrounds. Bad color theme. Changed user interface. ... to name only a few of the things which are worse.
several reboots for an update - my default bootloader points to something else - up to 4 reboots for a single update - slow update mechanism for offline package installer

one install or one uninstall runtime can run at once

no shipped older directx - try to install mount and blade and you will see.

microsoft online account / bitlocker

outdated ntfs file system / vfat for boot

setup dialog asks for - i did that now two times in a few days with windows 11 pro = refurbish license and install from refurbish company.

tradcking information / find my device / send diagonstic data = can not be refused / pen support = who needs that / 2nd time diagonstic data / advertise data / endless wait time on nvme

copilot in the task bar. untidy desktop

useless lint files in teh startmenu
teams
office 365 but no office
store
to do
one drive
xbox
sticky notes
game bar
copilot
feedback hub

the need for a calculator is questionable
the need for notepad which is bad is questionable

clock item belongs to settings and not startmenu
accessiblity belongs to settings and nto startmenu

-- very slow bootup time in comparison with other operating system. very bloated.

After carefull consideration I will try linux, cause windows 11 is crap, windows 10 is ok, but still not ideal, so I will go and check how bad/good is Linux

there is no linux - only the kernel. which is in embedded linux, kernel of the android smartphone or the customised kernel for many distributions.

pay attention: gentoo linux is not nearly the same as arch linux not nearly the same as ubuntu = mint not the same as slackware

Hint: a package manager has a purpose. chosing another distro because someone is unable to change the user interface or desktop background is not very smart.

just because many are too stupid to read kernel.org does not change facts

I've just scratched this topic _roman_ and now new info I see, that i don't understand about :). ahh, finally something new (for me) to try to understand ^^ (I really don't understand the difference between kernel and operating system, but I will try to learn it :), thanks for pointing it out :D ).

using w11 21h2 22000.3260 that I customized myself, I even made an ISO ready for anyone who wants it
removed defender
removed edge
removed cpu mitigations
added firefox
added visual c++ all runtimes
I found this version a little faster than 24h2 less RAM and VRAM consumption
If anyone wants to test it, I'll leave the links in my signature. The details are in pt-br, but you can install the language of your choice after installing the system.

How Ram does it use at desktop idle, 24H2 only uses 4.5GB on my system with Vivaldi open 1 tab open to here

21h2 using 1.1gb ram

vs windows 11 24h2, all windows using the same resources, same services using 1.4gb of ram

A few days ago I took the plunge and installed Win 11. Some comments:

-I was lazy enough not to physically remove my other NVMs (no way to disable them in BIOS) and ended up with the new install forcing a dual boot with my old Win10. Oops.

-I think I downloaded my Win 11 iso on the same day or shortly before their announcing that old method would be blocked. Nevertheless, I was using latest Rufus to install it on
pendrive, and it had option to use this trick (probably too early for them to implement the new one?). I ticked it and it has worked just fine.

-the Win 11 itself just seems so...pointless? The only major change seems changing the Start menu. I didn't really have much time to play around with it, especially testing games (see my sad GPU snafu story) but it’s all pretty much business as usual. The OS performance was quite the same as 10, maybe a bit memory taken up (8GB vs 7GB on Win 10).

-the one big reason I wanted to try it is that on my Win 10 setup, trying to run both Asus Pro Art monitor as main and my LG C2 TV as secondary at the same time results in an unworkable nightmare. I thought maybe this was fixed in 11, but nah - same rubbish.

Overall I'm glad I tried it, at least now I know what's what, and have a ready install in case I need to switch over or just as a backup (I will continue with my Win 10 as daily because I’m too lazy to migrate everything). But, if you're on Win 10 and don't worry about "security" all that much, there’s probably very little reason to switch.

Yup, you'll need to reinstall if you remove any of them. So take them out and reinstall now. It's an annoyance, but you'll have to do it sooner or later so you might as well do it now.

There are a number of GUI changes throughout the OS.

This is interesting. If you share more about your issue, we might be able to help you figure it out.
