Windows 7 Club

I never used an M$ account in windows, always created a local account.
I did that for a few hundred years as well - but then i discovered that online accounts made local file sharing a breeze (if you're logged in on both PC's, you get automatic access to shared folders without any of the issues i'd get for local accounts with no password or mismatched passwords)

Hello. Can anyone help me on how to activate windows 7? Thank you.

Hi,
I've used this site before no issues

Version 4.0 (2023.04.26) New versions of Rufus requiring Windows 8 or later.

Hey just wondering here, may take a go on it. I read there was a patch released in 22 to allow UEFI support for win 7?? I tried awhile back to mod a 7 iso with some 10 stuff trying to make UEFI work. I was wanting to do a quad boot on a laptop but ended up taking 7 off the list since I didn't want to set the bios to legacy to accommodate for 7.

Correct. Rufus 3.22 is the final version that supports Windows 7. This this means I'm going to be on 3.22 for a foreseeable future as I still install/use Win7 regularly.

I'm currently posting with windows 7.

As of yesterday steam now has countdown when the program will stop working. This is now open to debate as it look like windows 7 user(s) will no longer be able to access their games when support ends.

EDIT: This is why I like GO.G as gsme's will continue to work when support ends.

Exactly. With GOG, your games games are always yours. On Steam and other platforms, games are only yours so long as the devs and the platform owners say so..

Another beauty of owning GOG games is it require no installation, so what I have here is all my GOG games on a single external SSD. So when I want to play them it's a simple click & go & it works on any computer external SSD is connect to, ie easy transfer from computer to computer no installation required.

EDIT: @thread

Windows 7 is still getting updates. Last update 12/4/2023

The only update I've been getting since January 2023 is the monthly Malicious Software Removal Tool, which simply runs a scan to detect some common malware. Are you getting any other updates?

The remaining question is will it stop working entirely, or will it just be unsupported - as in, will they not offer tech support for help issues.
The games may run, but the overlay and browser may not for example.

To my knowledge i think thats all they do, is some basic anti malware and patching critical flaws - the zero day kind of emergency stuff.

Googling it says they stopped the extended support in Jan this year, so i assume just the antivirus updates will be all that's released now, without some special exception (Like the media catching on to some crazy flaw making 7 a virus magnet)

Apparently some third parties are stepping up to offer their own security udpates?

That's a good question. I think the store access will stop working but any owned/installed games will continue to work. That's just a guess though.

It say's on my screen steam will "stop working" after 247 days as of today.

EDIT: If this is the path steam is taking, then all games marked as windows 7 compatible must be removed. It's open to protest as I have huge amount of games well over 100 & I want a transfer of what games can be moved.

Well you can't say you've not had enough warning that it's time to upgrade your OS to windows 10 or 11 all of your windows 7 games should still work just fine after doing so

Ya so if the game still supports 7 you can't lose the game. But if an update is released for said game that makes it stop working....
We're just guessing at this point. But I still run 7 on one of my systems and it has Steam installed, so I will find out and let you all know.

Thanks for the tip. Very much not helpful.

Is anyone here actually running 7 to confirm it's not tech sites misunderstanding a lack of support for a lack of launching?

"The main culprit, according to Valve, is the built-in Chromium-based browser that Steam actually uses to render the Steam store and other bits of the UI."

So, if users found a way to get updated chromium to work in 7... Like those 0Patch guys i linked above?

The only concern there, is that they have a paid subscription for some of these updates and it's not clear which ones are free without a user trying.

If you actually game on 7 with age-appopriate hardware, odds are a modern linux install will run better and be totally reliable.
It's not my cup of tea, but DX9 era games have always ran well in WINE, and thanks to the steam deck just about everything else now does too.

I keep flipping the OS On my laptop because it has issues with fast-boot and wifi, but it also needs a new battery so i've been super lazy. 4th gen dual core i7 with liquid metal on a bare die, thing just never died.

10 and 11 are turds

But they're pleasant turds.
Let's keep this thread about 7, because we absolutely will derail it really fast.
It's a rhetort
