So i wanted to use a VM to test my .bat file. So i downloaded the iso file, ran the VM. when I was on Installing features it was stuck. for 2 hours. How can I fix this

This was also on VirtualBox by the way.

Why don't you upgrade to W10? W7 has been obsolete for years and has had no patches of any kind for all that time either, so it's becoming more and more of a basket case every day. It's full of security holes now, in particular. I reckon what you wanna do will work fine in W10.

Crucially, you can just upgrade to W10 for free. Just create an installation USB stick or DVD and away you go. It will activate and be completely legit.

Get the media creation tool from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

@Bill_Bright you might wanna add more info to this one. :)

Try a different ISO, or preferably make one from a physical disc. That may not work, but it's worth a try. Downloaded ISOs can be troublesome.

Evidently he has some specific use case, hence the VM.

I wonder how much these people get paid by MS recommending upgrading to w10.

If you like 10 and don't have a need or want for 7,it doesn't mean someone else has the same need\want.
So tired of seeing the 1st line after someone asks for help is "upgrade" to 10.

As to the OP,I'm not sure on your hardware but I was having a similar issue with a stock SP1 W7 iso on MSi and Gigabyte B550 boards with my 5800x.
I downloaded a W7 iso from a torrent site that was updated to September 2020 that just had a couple needed Microsoft software, like .net 4,8.
If I use that iso it installs fine,I just used my key to activate and I was done.

P.S This was done on a normal NVME drive and not a VM,not sure if the info helps at all.

Maybe, there's not really much info in the post to say.

Do you have Windows Update disabled?

Hi,
Always best to disconnect from the internet when installing
Win-7 sp1 media can not communicate with ms servers it needs recent updates to do that so unless these newer updates have been added to the iso your using update client is too old and just spins yarn indefinitely.

Win7 needs SHA-2 based updates to access MS WU servers, along with the WU "speedup" patches for Win7

I bet I can prove software that is part of windows 7 still receive updates direct from Microsoft.. I have the evidence here, but you can check & test for yourself. if you have the full windows 7 installed that includes "every single update".

Just to be clear, it's still getting updates every few weeks or monthly, but not in a way most users think.

EDIT: I'm not talking about paid for extended updates.

That's gloriously non specific. Why are you being cagey about it? So, how does it get updates then, if not extended support? I'd love to see that evidence.

the reason people don't want to use windows 10 is probably because of the performance boost, especially with vm's.

Look at his posting history: he only ever made one post and therefore ignored everyone so this whole discussion is moot. I think this thread can be closed before it becomes a crapfest.

What's so funny about my post?
