Wondering if PSU is enough for this setup

using forceware 275.27

my stable fps at that game would be like 43fps on avg.

i got 45 but my computer rebooted after 3rd runs.

u see im limited in overclocking like this. stupid.

Do me a favor, do you have any dx9 games? Or possibly could you run 3dmark06 for me.

i dont have 3dmark06 :/.

why?

cant u run just cause 2 benchmark?

I can but I am not the one with the issue, I am trying to help you sort something. After reading and rereading along with some google-ing, the culprit is either the power supply or the motherboard, in which case I highly doubt it is the power supply.

There was a user with the same board & power supply setup as you about a year ago along with a gtx460 1gb with almost quite the same issue. I have to say it's going to be a board issue as I know quite a few systems running along just fine with a Corsair 400W with a gtx460. It is possible you just have a card that also doesn't overclock well.

Try updating drivers and go from there

what games u currently have??

what games u currently have??

None installed at the moment that really push my system. I am getting a new board soon ... tl;dr

JrRacinFan: whats your standard on performance for playing a game?

for me anything above 20fps is playable.

45+ but I try to vsync to my monitor as much as possible.

lol. looks like i have a very low standard :P. maybe its because im used to it as i never had a high end rig.

JrRacinFan: today i took my computer with the parts to computer shop to assemble it for me.

but i dont know what happened, my computer became very slow to even boot into the operating system :(

i tested the computer there in the shop. it was looked like my hard drive got very slow at loading windows. it was taking ages to load into windows. :(

so they told me to keep my computer there in the shop till tomorrow. so they can fix it....

my hard drives were working normally with my old system, but with the new system, it wouldnt even load into windows!!!! :(

do u know what might be wrong??? is it because of new motherboard that i have to format and install a fresh OS or something????

my computer is there now :(.

If you have a new motherboard then in my opinion, a fresh install of the OS is called for! I believe in clean starts! Cheers!

neoreif: so it is always a MUST to do a fresh install of OS after every motherboard/CPU upgrade???

otherwise you will face problems like i am now?

Yep,otherwise driver conflict and lots of shit happening...!
Wait till the shop gives you an answer and let us know...

so i shouldn't take the computer home until they fix all the problems????

also the problem was that the Windows 7 logo was just keep on loading and loading....

even after resets it was loading and never got into windows.

in this case, it is hardware issue or software?

this happened only after motherboard/cpu and memory upgrade.

If they're a decent shop they'll give you a diagnostic or whatever on what's going on with your system and eventually a way how to fix it!
If it is HW they'll find out but testing in other systems...anyway wait for their response and then decide what to do next...

but what do you think?

do you think that reinstalling operating system fix the issue?

JrRacinFan: yes. from my research i found out that some people say its a chipset driver issue not being installed. so affecting the boot process.

that i might have to format and install the windows again and install the new drivers.

but you know, i didnt assemble myself. i took the pc to computer shop. it was their job to do that. my pc is still there till tomorrow. they said they will call me.

do u think i should return my PC at home and do the reinstall on my own or just let them fix that for me???

its their responsibility now eh?

Theirs now. If they mess something up or you lose all important files I warned you. Sorry man.:o

well, the problem was the drivers.

anyway, i brought the PC home and tested it with Just Cause 2 demo. didnt get any shutdowns when i increase the voltage to 1087v. i tried twice.

also my fps increased from 41fps to 54fps with this new CPU.

so far i only have 2gb DDR3 ram at 1333mhz.

so yeah, the restarts on voltage increase was due to motherboard not PSU!!!!

so now i learned something.

i havent overclocked the CPU yet, its at 3.30ghz.

Also i noticed that they didnt plug in the side case fan, the side case fan is off.

is it crucial???

is there anyway to make the CPU to be on a constant 3.70ghz speed and not on turbo mode when needed?

Raise current limit to max(if available) disable turbo and manually enter 37 for cpu core multiplier.

is it the Speedstep option that should be disabled???

other than that, i dont see anything called Turbo or Turbo boost in BIOS that i can disable.

JrRacinFan so you were right?big thx I also learned something new today:rockout:

From what i remember it's SpeedStep. Why turn it off?basically it lowers cpu freq when you're not using it!!!power saving

ALB: yeah it was due to motherboard. but the symptoms looked like PSU issue.

What if Turbo Mode doesnt kick in when needed????

like what if it doesnt get turned on....

also my motherboard has a pre-clocked profiles that i can use without manually adjusting things myself. should i use them?

pre-clocked overclocks are 4.00ghz, 4.4ghz, 4.8ghz.

can i try the 4.00ghz one??

im not conformable adjusting things manually myself.
