I have this annoying E2140 and when I launch 3Dmark it keeps on saying that its either a e6600 or a X6800 but its a E2140 and Everest and sometimes even CPU-Z gets it wrong also, is this normal. Everest keeps on saying that its a engineering sample, but I'm pretty sure that when I put it in it didn't really say anything, it just said intel on the top

It gets even more annoying when I overclock it, It gets detected in everest as a different CPU every single time depending on how far I clock It

Is there anyway to fix this, my benches keep on getting screwed up when I use 3dmark because it never says its a E2140:mad:

update your bios, could be a bios issue although it shouldn't because cpu-z and everest read the cpu itself.

what does your bios say?

Everest will detect the CPU by speed not by its actual type. I had my AMD's do the same. Started with a3200+ and ran it as a 4000+ you get the picture!

BTW some system specs might help as well.

whenever everest gets the name right this is what it says

CPU Properties:
CPU Type DualCore
CPU Alias Clovertown / Conroe / Kentsfield / Merom / Woodcrest / --
CPU Stepping L2
Engineering Sample Yes
CPUID CPU Name Genuine Intel(R) CPU 2140 @ 1.60GHz
CPUID Revision 000006F2h
Core Voltage 1.325 V

i tried updating and its the same thing

the microcode keeps changing somehow, sandra gives me e4400 microcode now

Don't use Everest, and don't trust anything it says. It is almost always wrong in some way or another in my experience.

What does CPU-Z say? Can you give us a screen shot of CPU-Z?

I've never had an issue with Everest, and in my findings on multiple systems both AMD/Intel, NV, Intel, VIA chipsets and such have been accurate. Even my temp readings are accurate to 1C of Speedfan, which does impress me. But results may vary.

I do trust Speedfan for temps, but Everest is pretty damn good for attaining information about ones' PC imo, and I like it a lot better than SI Sandra for attaining info, though Sandra does feature a lot more for benchmarking.

But with programs like CPU-z and GPU-z, Everest will fade more and more, all we need now is a MB-z.

:toast:

I stopped using Everest back in the 939 days, the damn thing can't identify CPUs at all. It bases its ID on speed alone, which simply doesn't work.

We don't really need a MB-Z, the motherboard tab on CPU-Z does a good enough job.

I decided to pull the out really quick and look at the text on it and before all I could see was intel and it looked like there was nothing else after that, so after some alcohol and a magnifying glass I can see the letters CO after intel, it looks kinda like somebody tried to rub it off, so its made by Intel CO., I know that already:ohwell:

what a waste of time man, it took like 30 minutes almost to take this thing apart and put it back together, im so tired of this thing

when i see the guy who sold it to me like 2 months ago he's gonna give me a refund for this

True on both fronts. Still I must state that CPU-z and Everest have both shown the same results and proper identifacations on all my rigs, including my current rig. Even though my e6300 is at 3.5Ghz, it's still shown as an e6300, with proper info. But that's a newer Pro version too...not worth the money, but is useful and more accurate than it's previous releases. But I have heard of improper ID's of components in Everest...gotta agree with you there, it's ID system isn't the best.

I would still like to see an MB-z that would show more than the MB tab on CPU-z, sure it gives enough information, but there's more it could profide that I would like to see, or maybe a little more info on CPU-z.

I just talked to the guy who sold it to me and he said that I can return it and he said he would give me a e2810 to cover it:rockout:

he said was a sample or something, I''m going to get my e2180 before they close, only got like 40 minutes

you get it sorted kain? lucky git gets a frree upgrade!

What store sells cpu's? I guess there arent any in nebraska huh =/

maybe i missed it but how in the world did you end up with an engineering sample cpu?

is the multi unlocked maybe someone messed up adn gave you an actual ES chip

edit-
damn you keaker you beat me to it

If you really did have an ES chip I would keep it, who cares what it shows up as. Especially if it has an unlocked multiplier.

ITS AN INTEL , THATS YOUR PROBLEM

And your problem is you are an ignorant trolling fanboy.

I would like to buy your chip. PM me ASAP!!! Most people would consider themselves lucky if they got your chip... you seem to be the opposite?

+1

I want one.....oc, oc, oc, till I drop!

Well I took it back and got a E2180 but what are the chances of that being a ES

the only suspicious things were the Intel CO(rest was faded) on the heatspreader and what everest said

I don't have it anymore, what are my chances of the store giving it back to me

how much could that cpu have costed if I soldit on ebay

sooo, he suckered me

no point talking about it now, friend! unlucky... maybe next year... Have a good newyears and don't worry about it!:toast:

Pretty much did get suckered, only way to confirm it would be an unlocked multi, like aforementioned.

Even at that they still are pretty bang for buck.
