OFFICIAL X-COM 2 (Discussion)

Now play it again :), i must say re play-ability is their even more so with the map changing. Like if you start restart a mission from the ship it changes the map which is some thing you never notice if you make a save at the start and not go back to the main ship.

I have to say, this type of game is multiple-playthrough replayable. I played the UFO series (Aftermath, Aftershock, and Afterlight, which are very good reincarnations of X-com as well) 3 or 4 times each. The changing maps and missions on each playthrough kept it fresh.

I'm looking forward to getting started on this once the patches stop so I can mod it in peace without any broken game moments.

yeah i think my second playthrough will wait for a few patches to clean up the lag and pauses...

Well i would of done the same kinda, i would of waited until a sale but with a friend buying it for me out of the blue it felt right to play it right away.

That said still had no CTD's no any thing games ran perfectly fine, i do wounder if \ when they add resolution options if the interface will scale well. But yes the maps can be totally different, i forget what they call it but all placements can be different too. i swear i had seen a undiscovered area once i seen it changed just by loading a earlier save.

To me these are in places i pretty much don't care about, don't get them in video's or actually playing the game. But yes there is room for improvement that's for sure.

i had to run without AA, without shadows, and with pretty much everything but textures off or on medium. I had plenty of lag in the later missions despite this. My system is not weak.

Umm, don't know but fine for me, i turn of blurring and put AAx4 on every thing else max still not real issue's. And i see your system is not all that different to mine either.

I have my 290X underclocked to 714 ( default is 1050 ) and CPU running 4.2 and run the game from a separate SSD.

As long as shit runs 35+fps i don't mind

Well they just released a 674MB patch today, so one step closer :P.

We’re happy to report a hotfix for XCOM 2 is now available. This update will automatically install when starting the Steam client. If it doesn’t automatically, restart Steam.

This update fixes issues causing known crashes and includes some performance improvements. Saves affected by the crashes detailed below can be recovered and continued after installing the update.

We will continue our patch support over the coming months with additional fixes and performance updates. It is important to the team that we address the issues below as soon as possible so fans can get back to enjoying the game. Stay tuned for more information on future updates!

XCOM 2 Patch Notes

  • Player is unable to progress to scan in the Geoscape after completing the Resistance Communications research via Tutorial – This will fix previously affected saves.
  • Unable to load saves with a Chryssalid Cocoon – This will fix the issue, and for previously affected saves.
  • Adjustments were made to Texture Streaming to assist with periodic frame spikes.
  • Using the preview voice button for a modded voice pack will no longer crash the game when in the armory.
  • Removed 8x MSAA from default Max settings.

Just started the next mission loading \ saving later in game is greatly improved and the cut scene's seem like they have improved a bunch too. Not finished this mission yet 14 enemy's in the current mission :P.

looks like i'll start a new playthrough soon :P

new patch made things worse for me. finish the first mission in a new game, hit promote - 2 minute wait times before it loads the character screen.

well 2 minutes and counting... hasnt happened yet.

WOW, but yes even though it smoothed other stuff out for me after the first load game there is a chance of a ctd or a never ending loading screen :(. No way to go back to the release version either :(.

I did validate my files 3 times, first time it found 2 files to replace and the second time 1 file and finally the third time no files were replaced.

i had to alt-f4 :/ it never ended

Got my Sapphire Nitro R9 380 a couple of days ago (playing on notebook that handled XCOM 1 doesn't really work), playing it on a, cough, 40" FHD TV (texts are still too small from 2.5 meter distance... =(). Game decided the card can handle max settings. Crimson driver decided I must switch on Virtual Super Resolution... I still wonder, how that affects my frame rates... ^^

The most surprising part here is, card should allegedly consume quite a bit of power, but I don't hear GPU coolers
(inside Thermaltake Chaser mk-I case) at all, kudos to Sapphire.

(Had problems with audio over HDMI, card didn't see TV as audio device, until I've upgraded the driver to latest beta Crimson.)

I haven't had ANY problems with neither loading times (SSD though), nor in game crashes. No crashes at all. FPS drops a bit from scene to scene, but when everything is loaded it is smooth.
(no patch, vanilla version)

Played only 4-6 hours so far, this just ain't XCOM, and it ain't a bad game. In fact, I quite like it, would give it solid 8/10 or even 9/10 so far (people complain it gets repetitive towards the end)

Ranger melee feels like mother of all imbas.

Don't see what people have against snipers, subjectively, my sniper has higher hit rate than game suggests, squad sight out of the box is great too, she scores in every mission.

Regarding timer mechanic. The "you have just aggroed 3 aliens, stupid" is annoying and the main reason I re-load. The whole mechanism is a bit silly, you are melting faces of the aliens' comrades with lot's of noisy pyrotechnic and
aliens located just around the corner don't give a flying f*ck, then you get to that corner, without even putting your nose out and they spot you immediately.

The main difference the timer makes to me is that I have to recklessly scout the map, abusing save/load, not that fun.

Oh, and besides normal timers, there are implicit timers, say, in terror missions they kill one civilian per turn and you are tasked with saving at least X of them.

I heard they increased the size of the maps... well, still doesn't feel bigger to me.

Keeping in mind it is not "that XCOM", I'd still welcome projectile tracing. E.g. missing shot should be able to hit someone else, including friendly targets. (Would be lovely in Iron Man mode)

ok i fixed the patch getting stuck with promoting soldiers.

i just had to buy a medkit, and smoke grenade - and then it just worked :/

umm did not have that issue and never used smoke nade's

the new patch screwed me over on starting a new game. googling it has shown others with the issue, varying from my problem with the game 'pausing' to outright crashes.

Guys, I ran into strange problem after one of the missions: aliens don't aggro.
It started with investigation mission, I thought, ok, bugged here, probably because I was walking on the roofs most of the time.
But next mission loads and, nope, aliens don't aggro, you can dance around them, shoot them, they'll stand like dummies, then die.

Anyone knows how to get out into normal mode? =/

Maybe there is a console command to re enable them, could all so have a look though the games ini files too.

Tried loading a older save ?.

another glorious bug - if you're getting long load times after missions, hit caps lock - it instantly lets you return with no waiting. no one knows why, but it works even on the new patch.

Yeah i posted that a little while back a few days after release. from what i have read is that it's comes with a warning as it MAY crash, as it forces every thing that needs to be done instantly and might be to much for some computers.

But anyways i have had no issue's personally by using it.

Ended up loading older save, worked.

ugh the promote bug exists with your first psi soldier too.

i'll see if buying a psi amp helps...

I have had no more endless loading saves or crashes since i ran the integrity 1/2 dozen times until it stopped re-downloading files.
