Well I was inspired to try again not really expecting it to work. I plugged it back in (after removing the 6200 test card and drivers) and it booted without the purple/pink stripes. So far so good.

Dowloaded drivercleaner and used it as per the instructions.

Installed the latest Cats 5.13 and then ATI Tool Beta. Set the fan speed based on the GPU temp - 60% to 55C, 82% above 55C etc.. Fired up 3DMark 2005. This ran okay. Rebooted to see if it this caused problems. Again everything seems fine.

Now here is the weird thing, I had repeated the above steps before but they made no difference. The only thing that I did differently was not screw in the DVI-to-Dsub convertor with a screwdriver.

But who cares what the problem was. I am just happy it is working so far.:D :D :D :D

Will keep you posted.

here is the thread from beyond3d forums , which inspired me to try and do what i did !

Has anyone installed .Net Framework 2.0 yet?

hehe that is great news guys :)...i had a feeling it was not the cards fault as our initial symptoms were identical...i always keep an image of the instalation without any video drivers, so when there is a question of conflict, i just restore it...i will go look at the beyond3d thread to see if i can learn more :)..so far i can only OC it to 700/800 via overdrive...ati tool does not work at all...any tips on at least finding what the card can do? :)

btw niiiiice 3dmark score zOaib :)

thx man !! .......... as u can see i have gone upto 755/855 with no voltage change or even temps rising , with stock cooler , the temps are well around 54-55 on load and it idles around 34-37 with this stock cooler i cant wait till arctic cooling or some other 3rd party comes out with a cooler , anyways i know a guy who used one of the nv silencers which are for the 6800 ultras , since the layout of the x1800xt is same as that .......... so i may look into that !!

-- Wizzard -- thx for the tip bro , although even by disabling atievxx in taks manager , i still couldnt change clocks with ati toll without my system halting , well nothign would happen just screen would go blank i mena the card wont give any output , but with that shitty software form DH for overclocking , it changes the clocks perfectly so the only draw back is u take a risk moving clocks higher without knowing if u will have artifacts or not ....... but so far i can get 755/855 and i aint goign more till someone comes out with better drivers and ofcourse our favourite ATI TOOL X1000 SERIES SPECIAL PLATINUM EDITION , hehehe !!

-- guy at bjorn3d.com did a review on the powercolor x1800xt and he had similar problems thats where i found out how to set this card right , he called it a funky overclock process....

2r4z0r2 it looks like you were right, there must have been some conflict or hardware installation issue. I still don't know what actually fixed it but I am over the moon non the less.

Going to cancel the RMA if it is still working by the 5th January...fingers crossed.

That's a nice 3DMark score zOaib.

I have an X1800XL and I can overclock it to atleast 550 / 600 BUT then its stable in everygame I run except BF 2. Where it either locks up, or gives me a signal los during loading. (although I think I've fixed the last by adding some extra volts to the card. Afaik the card doesn't get to hot or anything. My fan is on 50% if its under 50C and on 100% if it gets over 50C.

Anyone know what's going on? The BF 2 issue is basicly whats with holding me from overclocking it. It even happens @ 520/600... No issues at stock though, I think.

on stock im getting 690/810...when i raise gpu and mem voltages to about 1.4 and 2.15 i can get 740/840 but not much higher hehe...i guess my card is not so good oc :)..,the core can probably go up more, but anything past 840 memory will give me artifacts...anyways im gonna lower it down to normal speed and use stock overdrive settings untill there is a tool that does it all :)

my drivers are 5.13 ccc

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

I spoke too soon. Just like the last time I installed it, it ran okay for a day and a bit then started to exhibit the same problems.

Looks like I will RMA the card after all. :(
