Your Top Games Of All Time Pc/Console/Arcade

Yeah I remember that game! Back in the 90's
Played it for many hours.

I have also played this a lot and I am not even old :p With the exception of CDI i know, have heard or played most of these games. Except for that thing that @CAPSLOCKSTUCK linked. I know and I have played on Atari 2600, commodore, NES / SNES etc but what the hell is that? I unfortunately cannot really make a list on top 10 of all times. I like how old games used to be so simple by today's standards but still managed to provide hours of entertainment but I also appreciate the complexity and vastness of todays games. If i have to say the games i remember the most I would say

OLD
Supaplex / Boulderdash
Ghosts & Goblins
Space Invaders
Missle Defense
Contra
Tanks
Space Invaders
Bubble Bobble / Snow Bros
Cadillac & Dinosaurs
Aero Fighters

NEW
Total Annihilation
Dune 2
Battlefield franchise (2142 never happened :D)
Mass Effect franchise
Dino Crisis
Resident Evil
Richard Burns Rally
GTA franchise
Counter Strike
Chicken Invaders

Edit: I forgot Star Trek - Bridge Commander

What I find funny is how there didn't use to be save games. If you died you started from the beginning and no one complained and people just replayed and replayed for hours and today people bitch (myself included) if game is check Point based and you loose 20-30 minutes progress. Also I have to say I rarely (almost never) replay a game today after finishing. And don't get me even started on flashbacks in racing games

If you don't have it on Steam yet, it's well worth getting, since it's the very latest version, super-convenient to install and most importantly, really cheap nowadays - ÂŁ8.99 in the UK.

@krusha03 the "thing" of which you speak is the Sportsvision 1000....a very early games console.
http://pongmuseum.com/collection/intel-tvsport1004.php

It was brand new when me and my 2 brothers received it as a collective Xmas present, i would have been 11 or 12 at the time.

Here is some info about early gaming machines
http://www.gamefaqs.com/zod/921499-atari-retro/faqs/1288

At the time gaming consoles a new thing on the scene but not that much more remarkable than etchasketch or other innovative or interesting kiddies diversions.

The family friend who gave it to us was a tank driver and i suspect he may have bought it in Germany as i know he was stationed there.
A google search only gave 17000 odd results which is one of the least #'s i can recall seeing as a search result.

Here is a complete list of early consoles
.http://www.playerschoicegames.com/largerlistofsystems.html

we played on this machine for hours and hours, you could play alone or as a pair, if all 3 of us wanted to play we would put the machine to one side fight each other and the loser would run away crying to Mum whilst the other 2 played !

There wasnt much in the way of variety,
options were
Fast or slow
autoserve on or off
20 or 40 degrees of bounce
large or small bats.

as you can see from the pic, there is damage to a switch mechanism which is infact the serve button, i can and will fix it, though it is not required to play the games.
i no longer own a TV old enough to receive an anologue signal but i think somewhere i have old TV card with that input so i may be able to resurrect it using that.

In its day, in the minds of the kids like me who played it it was unbelieveable. It was a revolution and it started an evolutionary process.

I am determined to hear the "BEEP" it made, it will take me back over 35 years to an age where all this was new and believe me it was mindblowing...just as much fun as todays gaming i reckon.

Behind this spoiler is a badger picture, if a cute furry animal is likely to upset you please dont click

All the contacts inside the machine are in good nick, i will add it to my list of projects, i am certain it works as my own kids have played on it......they thought it was rubbish by the way.

It was a novelty experience for me when I bought my Atari 2600. No one else that I knew had one at the time (early 80's). To be able to interact with objects on my TV was entertaining and the challenge to not be defeated while doing so was fun. Yeah, the games would be seen as shit today but I had fun with mine at the time. I had Space Invaders, Pong and Asteroids. Pong got dull pretty quick for me but the other two were a lot of fun.

1.) Half life 2 ..this game blew me away, even tho i never finished the original
2.) Lucas arts Outlaws......so much fun DM with friends on dial up...lol
3.) Medal of Honor Allied Assault
no real console or arcade favorites, tho i do have a mame cabinet

PC
Dead Space

Console
Metroid

Arcade
Mat Mania

Those are just the top 3 of my all-time favorites...subject to whatever mood I'm in at the moment. Having played literally thousands of video games in the past 35+ years, I could go on with lists that would make your eyes bleed.

Goodtimes!

I have played this and I caught the last train to say i was born in the 80s :D Luckily my dad was into computers and while we have had a PC since I can remember about myself (actually even before that) i remember one day stumbling upon his old Atari 2600 and Comodore C128 with a floppy and a cassette drive. Ah the joy i had with these. The only problem was learning how to use the C128 being 5-6 and english not being my first language. Fun times, and I think they still are at my parents shed in working condition

The C64 was a lot of fun for me. I taught myself Basic and 8 bit Machine Language on it. I wanted a C128 but didn't have the cash back then. It interested me because of the memory swapping since the processor could only address 64KB and the C128 had 128KB. I could put code on the last 8KB reserved for Basic ROM in the RAM of the C64 and swap into and out of that with machine language calls by turning Basic on and off.

The games were fun though and long before people were surfing the internet we had BBS and multiplayer games. Just one at a time. :)
