Cyberpunk 2077 Update Adds AMD FSR 3 and Frame Generation for PC Players

Cyberpunk 2077 has historically been a challenging game to run, although a number of optimizations and updates throughout the game's life cycle have improved quality of life and visuals greatly. The latest Cyberpunk PC patch 2.13, released on September 12, aims to improve both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion with the introduction of AMD's Fidelity FX Super Resolution with Frame Generation.

The addition of FSR 3 comes almost a year after the game gained support for NVIDIA's competing DLSS 3.5 and AMD claims that Frame Generation and FSR 3 can boost frame rates by upwards of 300% at higher resolutions with less of a quality penalty than previous versions. Cyberpunk's performance gains are likely less drastic, though, since even AMD says its Fluid Motion Frames 2 only achieves a 78% performance boost. Performance claims aside, FSR 3 and frame generation should make playing Cyberpunk 2077 on devices like the Steam Deck more viable, since the Steam Deck doesn't have the benefit of AMD Fluid Motion Frames built into the AMD drivers like Windows devices do.

FSR 3 Removal
After reviewing crash data from the Server Stress Test, a significant number of them seemed to point to FSR 3 integrations, whether or not users had the setting turned on. To ensure better stability, we temporarily have removed FSR 3 from the launch build and are working with various external and internal teams to see if we can implement it, or an older FSR version, in future updates. We've added an update to our Performance Expectation blog to reflect this change. For those who wish to use XeSS or DLSS, these will still be available at launch.

Now, Enable FSR 3 in FSR 2 Games with New Leaked Mod

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is easy to integrate with games, which also makes the tech a hot commodity within the modding community. LukeFZ figured out a way to get any game with a working FSR 2 implementation to be modified to support FSR 3, which should bring features such as improved image quality among the quality presets; and frame generation. LukeFZ has been behind several such game mods, some free and some paid, one of his community members leaked a bundle of all his paid mods, including one that modifies any game to take advantage of FSR 3. Called simply the FSR2FSR3 mod by LukeFZ, this mod is tested to work correctly on the following games: The Last of Us Part I, Dead Space (2023), Hogwarts Legacy, MS-Man Remastered, UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves, HITMAN World of Assassination, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Remnant II, Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Dying Light 2, Watch Dogs: Legion, Metro Exodus Enhanced, STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor, Ready Or Not, and Assassin's Creed Mirage. You can find the mod in the source link below.

Community Mod Brings FSR 3 Frame Generation to Cyberpunk 2077

AMD last week released the FSR 3 source code to public through its GPUOpen initiative, and the modding community wasted no time in bringing the feature to popular games such as "The Last of Us: Part 1," and now, "Cyberpunk 2077." CD Projekt Red will probably bring official FSR 3 support to the game at some point, but for those who can't wait, there's DLSS3-to-FSR3 by Nukem9. Put simply, this is a DLSS 3 DLL that you replace your game's DLSS 3 library file with; which gets the game to use FSR 3 instead of DLSS 3 Frame Generation.

The latest version of DLSS3-to-FSR3 adds "Cyberpunk 2077" support, and there's an extensive guide written by AndreasLyUs on Reddit, on how to integrate it with your "Cyberpunk 2077" installation, so you can enable FSR 3. Neegzm on YouTube, published a video review on how FSR 3 mods for "Cyberpunk 2077" look and perform compared to DLSS 2. You can expect a frame-rate jump from 25 FPS with DLSS 2 Quality to 47 FPS with FSR 3 enabled. The FSR 3 mod should be particularly useful for those on older NVIDIA RTX 30-series "Ampere" GPUs, or all Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000 GPUs. Those on RTX 40-series can just take advantage of the official DLSS 3 Frame Generation support to see comparable frame-rates.

AMD Releases Adrenalin Edition Preview Driver for AMD Fluid Motion Frames

AMD has released the AMD Software Adrenalin Edition Preview Driver which add support for AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technical preview which is available in several games and only works on AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards. AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) will be available as a part of FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.0 (FSR3), which is expected to launch tomorrow and supported in Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum games.

With the new AMD Software Adrenalin Edition Preview Driver, AMD enables Frame Generation on a driver level as "Fluid Motion Frame" option, which can be enabled via HYPR-X, or individually for each game by using the Global Graphics Settings page. AMD has an extensive list of over 20 titles, including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us Part 1, Far Cry 6, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and others. AMD also notes that AFMF can also be manually for any title such as Cyberpunk 2077 using the per-app settings within AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.

Forspoken Gets Version Update Patch 1.22 Adding Support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 and More

Square Enix has released Forspoken Version Update Patch 1.22, making it the first game to officially support the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3. In addition to FSR 3 support, the new Forspoken Version Update Patch 1.22 also adds the Native AA quality mode options and fixes some issues with save data between the main game and DLC.

According to the release notes, the update will not come to the PlayStation 5 version, and the Microsoft Store version will be updated as soon as the patch is approved. Surprisingly, Square Enix describes the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 as technology that "combines temporal upscaling and frame generation to deliver significantly higher performance," and says that the frame generation is enabled separately from upscaling and is available when using AMD Radeon RX 5000 Series, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series, and Intel Arc 7 Series or newer GPUs. It is left to be seen if these will indeed work on Intel Arc series GPUs, as it was never officially confirmed by AMD.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 to Officially Launch Tomorrow, Forspoken and Immortals of Avenum as Launch Titles

AMD has confirmed that FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) will launch tomorrow, September 29, with Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum listed as first game titles to support it. The news was announced by Frank Azor over at Twitter, with the promise of more titles coming soon. In case you missed it back when it was announced in August, the FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 Fluid Motion (FSR 3 Fluid Motion) is AMD's direct answer to NVIDIA's DLSS 3 Frame Generation. As promised back then, the FSR 3 will work on the latest AMD Radeon RX 7000 series and previous-generation Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards based on the RDNA3 architecture, as well as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-, RTX 30-, and RTX 20-series graphics cards.

As explained back then, AMD FSR 3 Fluid Motion is a frame-rate doubling technology that generates alternate frames by estimating an intermediate between two frames rendered by the GPU. While Frank did not specifically mention any game titles, back in August, AMD confirmed that Forsaken and Immortals of Aveum will be the first two titles with FSR 3 Fluid Motion support.
