Japanese peripherals maker I-O Data announced the LCD-MF272CGBR, a new 27-inch monitor. Featuring an AH-IPS panel with LED backlighting, it offers a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (WQHD), 178°/178° viewing angles, response time as low as 6.5 ms, and as high as 12.4 ms, 440 cd/m² maximum brightness, and 1,000:1 static contrast ratio. The panel features a contiguous piano-black front that makes it appear bezel-free, a matte-black rear, and a brushed aluminum stand that gives you basic tilt adjustments. It can be removed to reveal VESA wall mounts. Display inputs include dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI, and D-Sub. Measuring 650 x 240 x 200 mm (WxDxH), it weighs a little over 7 kg. Slated for late-July, it's expected to go for 79,800 JPY (US $800).

Continued decline in demand for PC desktops has led International Data Corporation (IDC) to lower its estimate of PC monitors shipped in the first quarter of 2013 (1Q13) to 33.8 million units, down from its previous forecast of 34.7 million units for the quarter. In the latest update of the Worldwide Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker, IDC also lowered its total shipment forecast for 2013 from 140.1 million units to 134.4 million units, which will represent a 9.9% year-on-year decline. By 2017, worldwide shipments are expected to drop further to 113.6 million units.

"The continued decline in PC desktops is bringing about changes in strategy and product focus in the PC monitor market," said Jennifer Song, Research Analyst at IDC. "With Windows 8 operating system, we expect to see more touch-based monitors although price points are a little high. Average screen size of the market is also expected to increase to 21.4" in 2017 from 20.4" in 2012."

Samsung Display announced today that it is showcasing several industry-leading technologies and mobile to extra-large-sized display prototypes at the Society for Information Display's Display Week 2013, May 21-23, 2013, in the Vancouver Convention Centre (Booth 700). These include a Full HD (1920x1080) mobile AMOLED display with the world's broadest color gamut, and an 85-inch Ultra HD (3840×2160) LCD TV panel with extremely vivid color and low power consumption.

DGM (aka Digimate) rolled out a trio of IPS LED PC monitors covering the 24-inch, 27-inch, and 30-inch categories. The best part? These aren't the usual 1080p tripe. The 24-inch IPS-2402WDH features a scrollwheel-pleasing 1920 x 1200-pixel resolution, 178°/178° viewing angles, 350 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 static contrast ratio with dynamic mega-contrast, and 5 ms response time. It features in-built stereo speakers, display inputs include DVI, HDMI, and D-Sub.

Moving on, the 27-inch IPS-2703WPH features a reinforced glass surface (we're guessing some Corning Gorilla magic at play here), 2560 x 1440-pixel resolution, 6 ms response time, and other vital-stats identical to its little sibling. Display inputs include dual-link DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, and D-Sub. Lastly there's the pack-leading IPS-3004WPH. This 30-incher features 2560 x 1600-pixel resolution, 6 ms response time, 370 cd/m² maximum brightness, and the same connectivity as its 27-inch sibling. Internally, it features the same IPS panel used in Dell U3014, which features GB-LED backlighting. DGM didn't finalize pricing.

ASUS today announced the PA249Q ProArt Series LCD Monitor, a professional 24-inch display that is factory pre-calibrated for uncompromised color precision, straight from the box. The PA249Q ProArt Series LCD Monitor has a native 1920 x 1200 resolution with 16:10 aspect ratio and features AH-IPS (Advanced High-Performance In-Plane Switching) display technology for a bright and vibrant image with 178-degree wide viewing angles. The PA249Q also features ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio, and ASUS QuickFit Virtual Scale and Splendid Video Intelligence technologies for enhanced image quality.

Japanese display maker Iiyama announced the ProLite XB2776QS, a 27-inch PC monitor featuring an AH-IPS (advanced high-performance in-plane switching) panel. Featuring a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, the LED-backlit LCD display offers 178°/178° (V/H) viewing angles, 5 ms response time, 350 cd/m² brightness, and dynamic mega-contrast ratio. It takes input from dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI.

The ProLite XB2776QS features a typical power draw of 43W, which can be reduced by up to 26.3 percent using the EcoMode feature. Its stand allows for pivot (to portrait) and tilt. 1.5W stereo speakers come built in. Measuring 644 x 249.5 × 455.0 ~ 565.0 mm (WxDxH), it weighs about 8.8 kg. Slated for early April, it is expected to be priced at 65,800¥ (US $686).

BenQ GW2760HS, which was announced last December, will be finally available in April. The 27-inch monitor will be sold through various retail outlets, bearing a price-tag of roughly €269. It packs extremely slim bezels, thanks in-part to the A-MVA LCD panel with white-LED illumination. The panel offers 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution in an era of 5-inch smartphones offering the same, 4 ms GTG response time, 3,000:1 static contrast ratio, dynamic mega-contrast, 178°/178° (H/V) viewing angles, and display inputs that include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. The monitor tucks in 1W stereo speakers, which takes input from a standard 3.5 mm-jack, audio from this jack and HDMI are relayed out through another 3.5 mm one.

EVGA unveiled its LED Controller software v1.0.0.11 for GeForce GTX Titan. Similar to the one that works for the GTX 690, the software tinkers with the voltage of the 2-pin connector that powers the glowy GeForce GTX logo on the top of the card. The software gives you either static manual control, or adjusts the logo's brightness according to GPU utilization, clock; or produce a groovy "breathing" effect. Samsung Display Co., Ltd., a global leader in display panel technologies and products, announced today that it has exceeded 300 million panels in cumulative OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panel production since mass production began in January 2007. Piling all 300 million Samsung OLED panels on top of one another would equal more than 68 times the height of Mt. Everest. That volume averages out to having produced more than 470,000 panels a day, or 5.4 panels a second.

While it took Samsung Display four and a half years to reach the initial 100 million production mark for OLED panels, the next 100 million units were produced in just eleven months, and the last 100 million units were produced in only seven months. Samsung Display held a ceremony to commemorate the 300 million production milestone today at Samsung Display City located in Asan city, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea, which was attended by its president and more than 300 other employees.

BenQ announced the GW2760HS, a new 27-inch AMVA LCD monitor that takes advantage of W-LED backlit illumination, which minimizes micro-flickering. Conventional LED-backlit displays use PWM (pulse-width modulation), in which brightness is increased or decreased by adjusting the time interval in which pulses of energy is sent to the diodes. The monitor uses other, more analogue methods of voltage control, resulting in flicker-free illumination. The GW2760HS is also characterized by a slim bezel.

This 27-inch widescreen display featured an LED backlight, an IPS panel, a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 6 ms response time, 350 cd/m2 brightness, a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, a 3-port USB 3.0 hub, and a stand enabling height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustment.

The LED-backlit IPS LCD monitors feature a nominal power draw of 41W, which goes down to 21W and 16W with EcoMode settings. Its stands feature a 90° pivot, 60° tilt, and 130 mm height-adjustment range. Display inputs include DisplayPort, DVI-D, HDMI, and D-Sub. 2W stereo speakers come built-in. The two are slated for market availability in mid-January, 2013.

NEC Japan rolled out the world's thinnest Ultrabook, the 15.6-inch LaVie X (model: LX850/JS). It is just 12.8 mm thick (375 x 255 x 12.8 mm), weighing 1.59 kg. NEC achieved its thickness thanks to innovations in cooling that spreads cooling components apart. It features an LED backlit IPS LCD screen featuring 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, Intel Core i7-3517U processor, 4 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD storage, and Windows 8. Connectivity includes two USB 3.0 ports, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0 +HS, HDMI display-output, SDHC/SDXC card slot, and a 2-megapixel web-camera. It is slated for market availability on December 27.

Japanese display maker iiyama announced the ProLite E1980SD line of 19-inch square (5:4) monitors for commercial PCs. The series includes two models based solely on body color, E1980SD-W1 (white) and E1980SD-B1 (Black). The E1980SD packs an LED-backlit TN-film LCD panel, which features 1280 x 1024 pixels resolution, which draws no more than 16W during typical usage, which can further be reduced to by 10% year-over-year (YoY) with EcoMode 1, 20% with EcoMode 2, and 35% YoY with EcoMode 3. The iStyleColor feature dynamically tinkers with gamma, contrast, and brightness to give you the best image quality.

In addition to its resolution, the panel features 85°/85° viewing angles (good for kiosks, service desks, or public PCs), 1,000:1 contrast ratio with mega-contrast, 5 ms response time, and 250 cd/m² maximum brightness. Display inputs include DVI-D and D-Sub. Measuring 411.1 x 189.5 x 402.0 mm (WxDxH), it weighs about 3.2 kg. It is priced at 14,800¥ (incl. taxes), about $177.
