AAEON Reimagines its Flagship UP Board with the Introduction of the UP 710S

AAEON's UP brand, which began with the creation of the credit-card sized UP developer board almost a decade ago, has introduced the UP 710S, a modernized, slimline 85 mm x 56 mm single-board that retains the DNA of its iconic predecessor, but with the addition of new features and greater performance to reflect the technological advancements made over the years.

While the UP 710S retains the credit-card sized form factor of the original UP Board, AAEON has reduced the board's height by 10 mm in order to make the already compact board more suitable for deployment in space-constrained environments, with its height now measuring just 25.13 mm. While such a design change would typically require a tradeoff in the form of a reduction in I/O options, but the UP 710S maintains key functions like GPIO, I2C, SPI, and COM that were previously attainable via a 40-pin HAT through dedicated wafers.

Raspberry Pi Announces $12 USB 3 Hub

Most Raspberry Pi single-board computers, with the exception of the Raspberry Pi Zero and A+ form factors, incorporate an on-board USB hub to fan out a single USB connection from the core silicon, and provide multiple downstream USB Type-A ports. And with that in mind, today we're launching the official Raspberry Pi USB 3 Hub, a high-quality four-way USB 3.0 hub for use with your Raspberry Pi or other, lesser, computer.

Key features include:
  • A single upstream USB 3.0 Type-A connector on an 8 cm captive cable
  • Four downstream USB 3.0 Type-A ports
  • Aggregate data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps
  • USB-C socket for optional external 3 A power supply (sold separately)

Philips, or rather its brand licence partner MMD—which is a division of TPV—has launched a new gaming monitor under its Evnia brand, namely the 32M2N8800. The panel is VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 certified and ClearMR 13000. Lamptron ST060 Dual-Tower Air Cooler Sports Full HD 6-inch Screen

CaseKing.de has started to sell a gigantic Lamptron ST060 dual-tower CPU air cooler for €299.90 (~$325) with VAT added. Many PC hardware news sites have predicted that this sizable—153 × 152 × 120 mm (W x H x D)—cooling solution is worthy of taking on similarly proportioned competition. CaseKing's listing includes some hype material: "(the ST060) offers extremely high cooling performance thanks to its six heat pipes and two PWM RGB fans. With a 260 W TDP, the cooler is also very quiet and has immense cooling reserves for overclocked CPUs and, despite its size, can be installed even with the mainboard installed." The integrated 6-inch 1920x1080 screen is the ST060's other selling point—DeepCool's (recently TPU reviewed) AK620 dual-tower cooler sports a large-ish top-mounted mini monitor, although its functionality is quite limited. Lamptron states that their new model is prepped for full AIDA64 integration; a license for this software suite is bundled in.

The integrated screen requires connection to USB Type-A and HDMI ports—perhaps a major annoyance—fortunately mini USB to USB and HDMI cables are included in the box. Additionally, software and digital instructions are uploaded onto a bundled USB-A flash drive. The base Lamptron ST060 model is joined by ARGB equipped alternatives—CaseKing has a product page for a black fan version (LAMP-ST060AB, also priced at €299.90), but it is not available to purchase yet. Tom's Hardware believes that a white fan model (LAMP-ST060AW) is also incoming—they documented some basic aesthetic differences: "In addition to the fans being different, the ARGB versions have a silver heatsink as opposed to the black heatsink on the regular version." Lamptron's ST060 air cooler appears to be an Intel socket-centric product, with support for LGA1366, LGA1200, LGA115x, LGA1700, and LGA2011. Team Red enthusiasts will be disappointed about compatibility being limited to AM4. Overclocking.com expressed surprise regarding Lamptron's re-emergence with new products—many assumed that the company was in a dormant state for a long time.

AAEON Unveils the UP Xtreme 7100 Mini PC

AAEON's UP brand, renowned for producing sophisticated developer boards with industrial-grade specifications, has announced the release of the UP Xtreme 7100, an all-in-one robotics solution available as both a single-board and Mini PC. Both the UP Xtreme 7100 and its system-level counterpart, the UP Xtreme 7100 Edge, are available in SKUs powered by Intel Core i3-N305 or Intel Processor N97 CPUs, chosen due to their balance of low power consumption and high performance. The platform consequently provides the sensor data processing, integrated graphics, and resources required for path planning and control algorithms needed to bring AGV, AGV + AI, and AMR solutions to market.

Consistent with previous product lines from AAEON's UP Division, the UP Xtreme 7100 and UP Xtreme 7100 Edge are built on compact form factors in order to address space restraints. Consequently, the UP Xtreme 7100 board-level solution measures just 120.35 mm x 122.5 mm, while the edge system version comes in at 152 mm x 124 mm x 40 mm. Targeting areas in robotics such as AGV and AMR, the UP Xtreme 7100 and UP Xtreme 7100 Edge are equipped with a number of terminal blocks for serial communication, along with a 30-pin board-to-board connector that offers digital I/O, GPIO, and isolated RS-232/422/485 function. Further, CAN 2.0B, a DIP switch, and LED indicators are onboard to make the solution conducive to establishing communication with other devices on the CANBus network.

Philips Launches 1440p Monitor with Integrated E Ink Display

We've seen all kinds of devices integrate E Ink technology over the years, ranging from USB flash drives to keyboards and of course eReaders. However, Philips decided it was a good idea to stick one next to a 1440p display in its forgetably named 24B1D5600 monitor. The 23.8-inch 2560 x 1440 monitor has the E Ink display attached to its right side and the E Ink display is attached on hinges and can be angled up to 45 degrees towards the main display. The E Ink display measures 13.3-inches and has a resolution of 1200 x 1600 pixels.

Although originally revealed at CES 2022, it seems to have taken Philips quite a while to bring it to market, although it appears to have been on sale in Asia for at least a couple of months by now. The main display features an IPS panel with a 75 Hz refresh rate and a brightness that tops up at a mere 250 cd/m². It has a typical IPS contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a grey to grey response time of 4 ms. However, it also doubles as a docking station for a notebook, as it has a USB-C input that supports USB PD 3.0 up to 90 W and it has a built-in Gigabit Ethernet port. It also sports a DP 1.2 input and a four port USB Type-A hub, plus an audio output. One quirky thing is that the E Ink display requires its own input which is via a USB-C port that supports DP Alt mode and that is capable of outputting 15 W of power to an attached device. The 24B1D5600 retails for around US$620 in Asia.
