The AMD C-60 features two x86-64 cores clocked at 1.00 GHz, which can jump up to 1.33 GHz with TurboCore, and a Radeon HD 6290 graphics core that runs at 276 MHz, that can run at 400 MHz with TurboCore.

Sol Computer's $749 Netbook, $1000+ Tablet: Achieving Cheap and Overpriced

Ok, let's get what's sort of good-ish about this netbook out of the way: the Pixel Qi's screen allows it be viewed easily in bright sunlight, which seems great - if you don't mind washed out colours and poor contrast under normal room conditions. The bad? Everything else. This Netbook isn't even made by Sol Computers. It turns out to be just a rebadged, refurbished Samsung netbook with a Pixel Qi panel in it. And get this: Sol Computer doesn't even hide the Samsung logo under the screen proving this is just a repackaged netbook, yet, it costs a hefty $749.00! Yes, Sol Computers' sole achievement is to have made something that is both cheap and overpriced. Amazing. Now, their Tablet PC is even worse: it's a rebranded "Alibaba special" i.e. generic Chinese tablet that doesn't even appear to support multitouch interface - yet it costs a staggering $1,099.00. It costs more than a high-end Macbook. I do wonder who their target market is for these products.

Acer Readying Tablets Based on AMD Z-Series APUs

Acer has just placed an order for 80,000 pieces of AMD Z-series accelerated processing units. Based on essentially the same design as Fusion "Zacate", Z-series APUs are designed to have lower TDP and to be of higher quality, so they could be deployed in enterprise and IPC (industrial PC) environments. The AMD Z-01 is Acer's choice, this chip combines two x86-64 cores clocked at 1.00 GHz with AMD Radeon HD 6250 DirectX 11 compliant graphics, and a DDR3 memory controller. The TDP of the entire chip stands at 5.9W, it is built on the 40 nm process at TSMC.

Acer's first tablets based on AMD Z-01 will run Windows 7, since Android 3.0 (codenamed "Ice Cream Sandwich") is not going to be out any time before the end of 2011. Acer isn't the only big tablet-maker opting for AMD Z-series over Intel's Atom Pine Trail platform, MSI is also reported to be working on x86 tablets running AMD Z-series. Manufacturers are opting for Z-series over Pine Trail, because the latter has both higher price and TDP. With its relatively faster iGPU, Z-series should be able to drive graphics-intensive custom user-interfaces on tables sized up to 10.1-inches. Industry sources expect AMD to ship up to 500,000 units of the chip in the second half of 2011.

Microsoft Intros New Wireless Desktop with 128-bit AES Encryption

Wireless input devices such as keyboards and mice provide a lot of convenience, but it comes at the cost of security. Anyone with proper equipment and skills can intercept the signals between keyboards and the PC, and log your keystrokes. That way, it's not extremely safe to input sensitive information like passwords. As wireless input devices evolved from using plain RF to 2.4 GHz band and eventually 5.8 GHz band, manufacturers began adding certain kinds of encryption mechanisms. Microsoft built on this, and packed its latest Wireless Desktop 2000 with 128-bit AES encryption, which is extremely tough for the unauthorized to decrypt.

The keyboard uses a standard layout with essential and media hotkeys. A row of buttons gives you easy access to pinned or opened items on the Windows 7 taskbar. The mouse, on the other hand, is a standard 3 button scroll mouse that uses Microsoft's Bluetrack technology that allows you to use it on virtually any surface. The new, secure Microsoft Wireless Desktop 2000 keyboard-mouse combo is priced at US $39.99.
