Value and Conclusion

  • The Antec P8 will set you back around 80 US dollars excl. taxes or 70 euros incl. government levies.
  • Very good material mix
  • High-quality glass side panel
  • All-steel interior
  • Very good liquid-cooling capabilities
  • Three fans included out of the box
  • Four SSD trays included out of the box
  • Lit-up Antec logo a nice touch
  • Magnetic dust filter on top
  • Very good cable management
  • Included fans are not of retail quality.
  • I/O a bit on the basic side
  • Break-out covers for expansion slots
  • Interior tooling used by other brands
The Antec P8 takes the same basic body we have seen for cases like the Silverstone RL05 or the much more elaborate Aerocool P7-C1, but adds a bit of its own spin. You get the same all-metal interior, including the shroud, which is great, and the same offset cover with the bulging opening within the case that allows for a clean build and the four placements for SSD trays. However, this is where things start to diverge in small but quite profound ways.

For starters, Antec has chosen to fill every possible location with SSD trays, allowing you to place up to four such drives without even touching the two 3.5" variants under the hood. In comparison, most other brands which utilize this interior frame opt for only two, forcing you to buy additional ones if needed. Another added extra within the P8 are the three fans where we usually only see one or two with most other brands. In comparison, the RL05 offers two - albeit 140 mm ones.

While all of this is nice, none of these benefits improve on the functionality we have seen in the past. Luckily, this is where Antec has also managed to adjust some elements. For starters, the top air vent has been designed so that you may install either fans or liquid cooling without having to worry much about such components interfering with the motherboard, while the magnetic metal mesh cover will keep some dirt out of the case. On top of that, the adjustable hard-drive cage underneath the shroud allows you to install a liquid-cooling element in the front as well without having to sacrifice compatibility or storage space, all while giving you the choice of removing the cage completely should you want to install a really long PSU inside the Antec P8.

With all the included extras, however, you will notice that Antec had to cut a few corners to achieve the price point. While having three fans is great, with most users never bothering to exchange them, they are not of retail quality. In other words, you won't find these fans for purchase from Antec. How do I know: the stickers on the cooling units do not sport a model number or any details - just the Antec logo. This means they are just OEM fans selected at the factory and branded to go with the rest of the case. Secondly, I am not a fan of the breakout covers in the back. Instead, it would have been good to see reusable ones - something the RL05 does offer.

Overall, the Antec P8 is not well priced even with the somewhat cheaper fans, but some may argue it looks better than other cases with the same tooling while offering more cooling and storage space.
