Arozzi Occhio RL Ring Light Webcam Review - Privacy Above All

Introduction

Arozzi Logo

The Swedish brand Arozzi is probably best known for its gaming chairs and desks. The newest additions to their product portfolio are two webcams, dubbed the Arozzi Occhio ($79/€79) and Arozzi Occhio RL ($129/€129). They're essentially the same product, with the more expensive Occhio RL having an affixed ring light for significantly improved nighttime performance. Both webcams record video in Full HD @ 30 FPS through an autofocusing all-glass lens system.

Arozzi calls them the first "True Privacy" webcams on the market for two main reasons: First and foremost, the lens comes with a handy magnetic cover which snaps over the lens and physically blocks it, making it immune to potential hacking attempts. Below the lens is a manual microphone circuit breaker, which makes the built-in microphones unhackable as well, as it cuts off electricity powering the microphones. If you're very sensitive to privacy, these two features alone should be enough to interest you in the Occhio and Occhio RL. Other than that, Arozzi's webcams offer a standard set of features: a universal mounting base, ¼" tripod mount, 360° swivel stand, and two notification LEDs—for the camera and microphone.

In this review, I'll focus on the Arozzi Occhio RL, but will also point out the differences to the "regular" Occhio, which is significantly less expensive.

The Package

The Arozzi Occhio RL comes in a significantly larger box than its cheaper sibling, with the integrated 6-inch ring light being the main reason for it as it takes up quite a bit of space. The box depicts the webcam from the front and goes over its key features. The camera is protected with a thick layer of foam, which should keep it safe during transport. Inside, you'll find the webcam with its non-removable ring light and a quick start guide.

The less expensive Arozzi Occhio is packed inside a much smaller box, again with a single photo of the webcam and a list of basic specifications. The text on the front strongly emphasizes Occhio's privacy capabilities. Aside from the webcam, the box contains a quick start guide.
