Introduction

With memory prices at one of the lowest points in years, now is a great time to be looking for memory upgrades. Summer hardware releases are in full swing, there is competition from both Intel and AMD, and the Red brand has thoroughly fixed the memory issues of generations past. No longer do users have to worry about memory compatibility or shopping for expensive AMD-branded kits. With 3200 MHz natively supported on the new Ryzen platform, options for enthusiasts have never been more open.

Corsair is a brand that needs no introductions. The California-based company has been a staple of the enthusiast community for decades, producing power supplies, peripherals, SSDs, coolers, and even entire pre-built systems. One of the brand's most storied and successful family of products is their high-performance memory kits. Balancing high performance with style and impeccable quality, Corsair memory kits are a staple of the enthusiast hardware market.

The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB is by no means a brand-new design. The kit has been a popular option for high-end RGB builds for some time. What is new is the white edition of the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB. Corsair aims to give builders and enthusiasts more options than ever with this new finish of an already great kit. As for performance, my test kit is a 4x8 GB kit of 4000 MHz at 19-23-23-45 and 1.35 V. As with other four-stick kits, I will test in both a two-stick and four-stick configuration. Lets see how this new edition of the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB performs!

Packaging

The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB comes in an octagonal cardboard box with a nice shot of the white Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB stick front and center. The Corsair logo features in the top left, with the specs in the top right. "Dominator Platinum RGB" is printed in white along the bottom, with the certifications below that. The back of the box is standard-fare with a short paragraph about the kit in a variety of languages.

Inside the cardboard sleeve are two high-density foam trays that hold the sticks inside plastic clamshells.

A Closer Look

The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB features a tall but uncluttered profile with clean lines and edges.

Each stick features a flawless semi-gloss white finish with gold accents. The top rails held to the sticks with gold screws are die cast zinc alloy, while the primary heat spreaders are aluminium for improved heat dissipation.

"Dominator Platinum RGB" is printed in gray on the front and back of each stick. The 4000 MHz XMP timings of 19-23-23-45 at 1.35 V are not ideal for AMD's new Ryzen 3000 or Threadripper 3 processors, but should prove fast on Intel systems.

"Dominator" features on the top of each stick. The LED diffuser is hidden behind a beautiful gold grill.

The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB sticks are single-sided and use a 10-layer PCB with Samsung B-die chips.

The RGB LEDS are mounted on their own PCB ribbon that is affixed to the plastic diffuser.

I like to weigh a stick from each kit I get as the difference in mass can be pretty drastic between kits. Mass is not the best indicator of cooling efficiency because material can matter, and of course heat dissipation is reliant on surface area, not volume or mass. That said, it is still interesting to compare.

The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB comes in at a hefty 99.36 g on my scale, which is on the high end. For height, the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB comes in at 56.79 mm with my calipers, well above the average 45–50 mm range. The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB is meant to be seen, but those with air coolers should check their clearance.
