Introduction

Building on the success of their HS gaming headset family, CORSAIR introduced the HS60 HAPTIC, a USB gaming headset whose main selling point is the Taction haptic bass technology. The idea is to offer a higher level of immersion by making the ear cups physically vibrate whenever the built-in 50-millimeter speaker drivers are reproducing low frequencies. This isn't the first "vibrating headset" ever released, but CORSAIR claims that the Taction technology is ten times more powerful than competing solutions throughout the bass region. They go so far as to say that your in-game reaction time will increase by up to 20% simply because the low frequencies have a faster neural pathway to your brain. Alrighty then!



In most other aspects, the $130 HS60 HAPTIC is very similar to the significantly less expensive $70 HS60 Pro Surround. It sports a wildly different color scheme with white camo ear cups, but they look the same otherwise, which is actually good because it means the HS60 HAPTIC is of high build quality and great wearing comfort, and has a detachable unidirectional microphone. The price premium due to the Taction haptic technology is significant, so it's definitely something we'll focus on in this review. We will of course also carefully examine other aspects of the HS60 HAPTIC headset to find out what it has to offer to those who like its design, but aren't necessarily interested in the haptic bass feature.

The Package

The CORSAIR HS60 HAPTIC comes in a recognizable yellow and black cardboard box. It depicts the headset from all sides and lists its technical specifications. The box is nicely done and will be hard to miss in a brick and mortar store.


Inside the box is the headset itself, along with a detachable microphone, foam windscreen, and user manual.
