G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4-4000 CL19 2x8GB Review

A Closer Look

G.SKILL's Trident Z sticks have their looks set in stone. The large metal heatspreaders are monolithic in design, with a plastic topper that varies in color depending on the kit you choose. You can also get the Trident Z sticks with an RGB bar across the top, but this particular set has a simple white bar instead.

Both sides of the heatsink look almost the same, but their color is sometimes a bit different on one side than on the other. Not so with this kit.

G.SKILL's sticker label game is pretty tight. A hologram label shows when the kit was made, which batch it's from, and covers all other pertinent details. The G.SKILL logo sits proudly across the top left of each side of the stick, written on to the plastic bar.

The other side carries the Trident Z logo emblazoned in white across the gray expanse of the heatspreader. You'll also find a mini G.SKILL logo in the middle of the top.

These sticks are single-sided with almost nothing mounted to on side of the PCB. There is some sort of foam pad as spacing to help the heatspreader sit properly on the side with nothing on it.

The ends of the G.SKILL sticks do hold a little bit of information. You can see PCB markings for the PCB layers of this 10-layer DIMM.

Another end shows the speed G.SKILL has rated this kit for, and its size, in case the label falls off. I wonder how that might happen, poor ugly things like labels only deserve so much, right?
