Introduction

We would like to thank MP4Nation.net for letting us test the Takstar HD5500s. MP4Nation carries a wealth of bang-for-the-buck brands such as Takstar.

Takstar is a name any budget-minded audiophile or music enthusiast should know since they have produced several incredibly well-performing headphones at a very reasonable price. Today, we take a look at the HD 5500, a headphone for the more bass-oriented crowd. It is a closed-back design with good noise attenuation and spades of bass. The design is very Takstar-ish as it is quite simple and sturdy.

The Package

The Takstar HD 5500 ship in a nice box that provides plenty of protection.


The HD 5500's bundle is well off. You get a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter and a carrying pouch.

Closer Examination

Takstar's design department is a bit on the conservative side, but that is totally fine with us. The black design with chrome trimmings looks great and can be worn by anyone without looking dorky. The HD 5500s are around-ear headphones, and the cups are just big enough to fit my European-sized ears. The pads are a bit shallow, so the tip of your ears might touch the driver housing's insides.


The Takstar HD 500's mechanical design is very good. Its adjustment mechanisms feel solid and are pretty easy to operate.


The cable is of a high quality as well. The jack comes with a screw on 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. Following the recent trend, Takstar also incorporated an interchangeable cable solution. Now we just need Takstar to develop a microphone and remote-enabled cable for the HD 5500s.


Stylish and simple, those are probably the first words that come to mind when looking at the HD 5500s. They look and feel great despite being a sub-$100 set.


The headband is pretty soft and spreads the load across the top of your skull evenly. Its clamping force is a bit on the high side for my head, but such will vary quite a bit depending upon the size and shape of your head.
