Introduction

MSI Logo

The MSI Oculux NXG251R is a 24.5-inch monitor aimed at hardcore gamers and eSports professionals. Its TN panel refreshes at 240 Hz and is backed up with a G-Sync module, which means it's primarily made for Nvidia-powered gaming rigs. It also offers several other features you might expect from a serious gaming-grade monitor, such as thin bezels, a built-in USB 3.1 hub, and a height-adjustable stand. If RGB bling is your cup of tea, there's a bit of that present too. The lightning system of the Oculux NXG251R is part of MSI's Mystic Light ecosystem, which means it can be synchronized with other Mystic Light-supported devices, such as MSI's graphics cards, motherboards, and peripherals.

To confirm the gaming credentials of the Oculux NXG251R, MSI decided to endorse Method, a gaming organization that started off as the best World of Warcraft guild in the world, but nowadays actively competes in several other games, such as PUBG and CS:GO. According to MSI, this monitor is what Method members use for all of their training and competing. Take this information at face value—it certainly doesn't tell us anything about the quality of the monitor, but if you're into multiplayer gaming, buying a monitor that's being used by your favorite eSports team could make you feel closer to the pros. Enough of that, let's get down to some serious testing to figure out if the MSI Oculux NXG251R is any good, starting off with the specs!

The Package

The MSI Oculux NXG251R comes in an unusually colorful box for a monitor. It shows the monitor from both sides and points out its key specifications, such as the 240 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms GtG response time, G-Sync support, and professional eSports aspirations.

A couple more specifications are available on the side of the box. MSI also goes out of their way to point out that they're sponsors of Method, a professional eSports organization that started off as one of the best World of Warcraft guilds of all time, but nowadays has teams competing in various multiplayer games, such as PUBG and CS:GO.

I'd love to show you the contents of the box, but the reviewer sample comes with nothing but the external power brick and USB upstream cable. The retail box also contains a pair of video cables (DisplayPort and HDMI), a quick start guide, warranty card, and the screws needed for VESA mounting.
