A Closer Look

The memory DIMMs come covered in red headspreaders in the traditional Mushkin exclusive design. The aluminum heatspreaders are quite solid and are held in place with frag tape and metal clips.


The sides of the memory differ a bit from each other. The prints on the heatspreaders are different and the sticker with the details of the DIMMs can only be found on one side.


The M logo and the "Redline" model name are printed on opposite sides of the heatspreaders. These prints are slightly domed and seem to be of high quality.


The sticker holds all the needed information to configure the system without having to look anywhere else. You will find the intended speed, CL setting and voltage on each module.


The memory PCB has the same markings on the outer edge as most other high-end DDR3 modules on the market. It seems the PCB is provided by the same source for most reputable manufacturers out there. Taking a look at the side of one of the DIMMs, it becomes apparent, that the thermal tape used is fairly thick, as the heatspreaders are lifted off the ICs quite far.


Installing the modules in our testbed did not cause any problems at all. The are low enough, so you will not have to worry about most CPU coolers out there. Our Noctua U12P has been turned 90 degrees to allow for easy installation and population of all three DIMM slots on our X58 board.
