This time, FSP managed to deliver an excellent platform that definitely hides more than meets the eye. NZXT made a wise choice by picking a different OEM for their new HALE90 V2 units, although the Super Flower platform that the older HALE90 units exploit is a great performer as well. We should also mention that the concept for this platform originated from NZXT and was then co-designed with FSP. NZXT didn't source an existing platform for a simple re-brand, as most companies do, but actually partook in the design process. They deserve credit for their efforts, especially if we take into account that this is the first time they actually enrolled into this highly demanding field.
The key differences between the old and the new HALE90 units are the fully modular design, the higher capacities that the latter offers, reaching 1.2 kW while the older ones were restricted to 1000 W, and the much improved look, at least according to our taste. I think that the HALE90 V2 1000 W PSU has all the necessary ingredients for a successful career on the market, and the competition will have a very hard time if NZXT manages to bring the price closer to $200.
Its biggest drawback is the noisy fan. It can produce a noticeable amount of noise in stressful situations. I think a combination of larger internal heatsinks and a lower speed FDP fan would positively impact fan noise levels, but doing so would add a significant chunk to the unit's overall cost. However, I am pretty sure that most users wouldn't mind spending 10-15 bucks more for a much quieter PSU with the same performance levels, since it beats having to use earplugs once they push the PSU too far. But pushing a 1 KW unit close to its limits is easier said than done.

To conclude, the new HALE90 V2 units definitely have the looks to make them highly desirable amongst gamers and system modders, and they, above all, offer really good performance. Your choices are pretty limited if you want a white-colored 1 kW unit and are also a strong fan of fully modular units, so the new HALE90 V2 1000 W PSU should be on top of your list, even if it will set you back a significant amount. However, you shouldn't forget that a good PSU - not a high capacity one, but a good PSU that matches your needs - is not a luxury; it is a real investment for your pocket, your system and, above all, the environment, since it will last longer and is much more efficient than a lousy PSU. So instead of buying an extremely high-end CPU to gain 0.1 sec of PI time, or a super expensive VGA to play at 2600x resolution with >100 frames, save that money and invest it into a high-quality PSU that will act as the power source to your entire system, positively influencing money spent on electricity, the environment, and everything inside of your computer.
