  • Noticeable performance boost from USB 3.0
  • Slim design

  • "Diamond" is the Aluminum plate, the rest is a normal plastic housing

A lot of manufacturers are utilizing the new USB 3.0 interface to bring out new hard drive enclosures. Naturally, Silicon Power is one of these companies. The Stream S10 managed to turn heads with its looks, performance and price, the Diamond D05 is mostly going for the esthetic factor. While the drive performs alright, it does not manage to shine anywhere. Additionally, the unit does not offer a pouch or bag, like the S10 or many other enclosures in the market. On the other hand it comes plated with a stylish, rather thick & real brushed Aluminum plate and the enclosure is extremely slim. It should be noted that the grey unit we received is by far the most understated one of the Diamond line, as the D10 is far more elaborate and comes in multiple color choices.
So it is clear, that for the Diamond D05, Silicon Power is aiming at a different user. I can imagine business users, who will end up whipping the drive out in a business meeting will rather go for the D05 or D10 than the S10. In such scenarios, understated, high quality looks and pure functionality are the two most important aspects - this the Silicon Power D05 delivers. But, if you are looking for extras, or the best performance, then you better take a look at one of the many, many other drives on the market.
