Silverstone Treasure TS01B RFID Enclosure Review

Use & Performance »

A Closer Look

The TS01B is actually quite compact. It is made of brushed, black aluminum with plastic covers at either end.

There are no connections or lights on the front, so we won't be taking a look at that. The rear has a small AC plug, but Silverstone does not ship the TS01B with a power supply. In the middle is a mini USB connector while the right side holds a small blue LED. Which turns green or red, depending on the encryption status.

The rear of the Treasure enclosure also has quite a few logos printed on it. As you can clearly see, it is made in Taiwan and it utilizes a SATA interface. Up front you will find an RFID logo the top right coner. This is were you need to place the key to gain access to the drive and its contents.

Assembly

Installing the hard drive is quite straight forward. We will be using a Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM drive for this review. To gain access to the interior of the enclosure, simply unscrew the two screws at the end with the connector. The image above shows the enclosure with the front removed as well, but this is actually not necessary for installation. The rear holds the miniscule PCB and the main IC. I had to shine a flashlight into this area to get a picture of the chip itself, as the PCB did not want to budge.

The IC is an all-in-one solution from INNMAX. The model name is IN7206 and has the following features:
  • Compliance with Gen1i, and Gen1m of Serial ATA II electrical specification 1.0
  • Compliance with USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed USB) electrical specification
  • Compliance with USB mass storage class bulk-only transport specification
  • Support Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 128 bits encryption function
  • Support SATA spread-spectrum transmitter
  • Support SATA II asynchronous signal recovery (Hot Plug) feature
  • Support 480Mbps High Speed (HS) and 12Mbps full speed USB operation
  • Support ATA/ATAPI LBA48 bit addressing mode
  • Support 12MHz external crystal
  • Support 125KHz RFID base band control
  • Single-power 3.3V power supply
  • 0.18um CMOS technology and 64 -pin LQFP ASSP package

Installing the hard drive, does not require any tools. Simply connect the storage unit to the SATA port. To close the TS01B, replace the two screws in the back - that's it!
