Introduction

Status Logo

Status is an audio brand based out of New York since 2014 with an emphasis on Bluetooth wireless headphones and earphones. I first heard of Status thanks to friends based in the greater NYC area asking if I had any experience with its products given they seemed to be inundated with ads on social media. In particular, one such product kept being marketed to them and it was fitting then that a marketing firm I know and trust ended up representing Status for review coverage. The product in question is the new Between 3ANC TWS earphones and thanks to Status for providing a review sample to TechPowerUp!

The Status Between Pro is a triple-driver hybrid set of wireless IEMs that currently sells for $99, and the reason I bring this up is because the newer Between 3ANC builds upon the Between Pro directly. We have the same driver system—1 DD/2 BA—but with improved tuning and a completely updated electronics system to add in active noise cancellation and better DSP on top. The Between 3ANC also comes in two color options as seen above and the design is striking in being quite different from the usual TWS earphones. Status also confirms app support on top of both physical and touch control buttons as well as a unique wings + ear tips system to help achieve a good fit and seal. The Between 3ANC has also got a price cut recently, along with the Between Pro, to where I do feel it's of interest to many readers here. As such, let's begin this review with a look at the product specifications in the table below.

Packaging and Accessories

I mentioned before how the Status Between 3ANC comes in two color options—onyx and bone—and I have the latter here which has specific packaging too as seen by the matching render on the outer sleeve. Status seems to be going for a minimalist type approach for the design given there is no other branding seen on the front and an empty back panel too, with the sides instead getting all this and more. The outer sleeve comes off an inner black cardboard box which has the company logo and product name in addition to the color etched on it again. Open the box to see paperwork in the form of a user manual (online copy here) and generic warranty/safety disposal information. I recommend going through the manual to better understand how to use the provided accessories as well as the pre-programmed controls.

Underneath the paperwork is a thick foam sheet with a cutout to snugly hold and protect the TWS case with the IEMs inside. Alongside is the accessory box with the expected short USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable for the case—it also supports Qi wireless charging—and I appreciated that the cable is color coordinated with the case and IEMs.

I removed the pre-installed size M ear tips from the earphones to add in this photo but realized only later that there was something else pre-installed. You see, Status not only uses the usual silicone ear tips—also matching in color to a good extent—in sizes S/M/L but also has the so-called fit-wings that go over the main body of the earphones. These are also made of silicone and come in sizes 1/2/3 with size 1 already on the IEMs as we will soon see. A combination of the fit-wings and ear tips helps make for a more customizable design and can have a higher probablity to achieve a good seal in your individual ears compared to the norm.
