Power Consumption

Let's check now how much power the DS212j needs in sleep, idle mode and during heavy throughput.

For all power consumption measurements we use two professional power analyzers, a Prova WM-01 and a GW Instek GPM-8212.

Sleep, Idle and Load

The Marvell CPU has very low energy demands so the DS212j consumes only 19.4W at heavy throughput. This is indeed a bottom low energy consumption that will let you operate the small NAS server for extended periods without worrying about increased electricity bills.

Power Consumption in Standby Mode

Vampire power or phantom load is the amount of power that a device consumes when it is switched off but still plugged into the power grid. According to the ErP Lot 6 2010 directive it should be below 1W and the future 2013 directive lowers this threshold to 0.5W.

Phantom power is below 1W so this NAS is ErP Lot 6 2010 compliant. This makes the DS212j even more ECO friendly.
