Several months ago, I reviewed the Synology DS1819+, which can take up to eight disks. For those of you with increased storage needs, I thought to take a detailed look at its big brother, the DS2419+, which supports up to twelve disks out of the box. With the DX1215 expansion unit, you can increase this number to 24 disks, or 384 TB of raw capacity if you use 16 TB HDDs. This is a vast amount of storage space that will cover every need. I can't help but imagine myself reading these lines after several years, with prices of SSDs considerably lower and their capacities having gone through the roof. However, we are still in 2019, and unless you live in Winden, there is no point in talking about what this review would look like in the future.

The DS2419+ is not a server for the average Joe. It mostly addresses business environments, which means its price is intimidating for all of us regular folks. There are several optional accessories that can boost the server's performance and functionality. Those are installed into the free PCIe slot. Besides 10GbE Ethernet adapters, you can also install an M.2 adapter cardfor two SSDs for cache purposes, which would reduce the random I/O latency. Support for M.2 drives without the need of an optional adapter would have been nice, though.

Packaging

This is same usual plain cardboard box used for all Synology servers. As long as it protects its contents well, I don't care about its looks.

The bundle includes a quick installation guide, two Ethernet cables, the AC power cord, a set of keys for the trays, and two sets of screws.
