The router uses a quad-core CPU. However, it is running at a low frequency in order to keep energy consumption low. Given this product will work around the clock, even a few watts less can make a difference in the long run, but a stronger SoC would make SRM snappier. Compared to the RT2600ac, the MR2200ac's web interface is a bit sluggish.
