Synology Assistant

The Synology Assistant app is compatible with the RT1900ac router.

Initial Setup

You can find the router inside your network by either using the Synology Assistant application or opening a browser window and typing in "http://router.synology.com" or "http://192.168.1.1:8000" after you've attached all the necessary cables. You will be greeted by the SRM Setup Wizard, and you only have to follow through on its steps to set everything up properly.

You will be asked to set up an administrative account to set the Wi-Fi network's credentials.

The last steps of the router's setup phase will have you pick the router's operational mode (Wireless Router, Wireless AP, or Wireless Client). "Wireless Router" mode will have Synology's router connect to the Internet through a DSL/cable modem, which makes it the mode most of you will pick. You have to input your Internet connection's credentials after setting your DSL/cable modem up in bridge mode to ensure Synology's router handles the NAT, firewall, and routing sections while the modem will only be used as a bridge that connects the router, and, consequently, your network to the Internet.

We should note here that you can provide Internet access to the router through any of the Ethernet or WAN ports if you use "Wireless AP" mode instead. This mode disables DHCP, which has the router act as an intermediate between the modem and the clients, sending and receiving data either wirelessly or through its LAN ports. "Wireless Client" mode gives the router wireless access to the Internet, which it then provides to those clients connected to it through its LAN ports.

Web Interface

SRM's login page is plain. You will have to input the right credentials in order to proceed to the web interface where a welcome message will greet you.

During your first login, some tips will be provided. You will also be asked to register a Synology account and check SRM's update settings.

SRM shares many similarities with the DSM OS Synology uses for its NAS products.

SRM's Start button in the taskbar's top-right corner reveals the main menu. Next to it is an icon for each open application. You can add shortcuts of your favorite applications to the desktop by dragging their icons from the main menu to the desktop. You can also remove shortcuts by right-clicking on them and picking the Remove Shortcut option.

The Admin menu not only makes restarting the router and logging out of SRM possible as you can also manage such personal account options as changing the password, enabling 2-step verification, checking on account activity, adding an email account, etc.

This window keeps track of all notifications, like errors, status updates, and package installation notifications. Next to the notifications icon on the taskbar are two numbers for the router's current download and upload speeds.

The Search menu allows you to quickly find specific applications, packages, or SRM Help articles.
