A Closer Look

Upek Eikon

The Upek Eikon is one of the most beautiful fingerprint readers I have ever seen. That said, it does feature a very ergonomic and natural shape, which should make it easy to swipe your finger. The construction quality is excellent and the underside of the device is laced with rubber, so it won't move around on your desk.

The groove in the center holds the actual reader, which basically scans your finger in, as it passes over the area. A few arrows also show you in which direction you are to pull your finger across the scanner. Overall a beautiful and well designed unit.

Upek Eikon To Go

The Eikon To Go offers the same functionality as its desktop variant. It is intended for those users on the road, wanting to secure their notebook with the same technology. The unit is black and about just as big as those traditional USB flash memory sticks. The underside - just like the desktop version - is laced with rubber, to keep it from moving around as well.

The fingerprint scanner is hidden behind a sliding plastic cover. Moving this cover up, also pushes the USB connector out of the shell. It looks like Upek has put a lot of thought into their devices. It connects nicely to the notebook and holds quite well. As you can see, the Eikon To Go has been connected to a new Macbook. We will be taking a look at both the functionality of the Upek Eikons in Windows and Mac OS X.
