Thermaltake Launches Contac 29 Multi-Socket Budget CPU Cooler

Thermaltake, leading DIY thermal solutions brand, launches a multi-socket support budget CPU cooler, the Contac 29. The Thermaltake Contac29 offers excellent cooling performance and a formidable price point when compared with the current competition on the market. Its Direct Contact Technology allows the three 8 mm heatpipes to immediately touch the CPU and thereby maximize the cooling effect. The multi-socket support offers excellent compatibility and flexibility in the choice and upgrade of your processor. It supports all major Intel sockets such as the LGA1156, LGA1366 and older LGA775 models. As for AMD, sockets AM3, AM2+ and AM2 are supported.

The three u-shaped heatpipes transfer processor heat up into the aluminum heatsink fins. In a second step the preinstalled 120 mm PWM fan blows air over the layered fins to further increase cooling efficiency, while the specially curved fins prevent outside heat to intrude the dissipation area.
As the Contac 29 is equipped with full PWM functionality the fan speed control is taken care of by the motherboard which automatically adjusts the speed according to actual CPU load between 800 and 2000 RPM. Even at highest speeds potential noise development is kept at the lowest level by using Anti-vibration Soft Mounts that virtually eliminate movement of the fan.

If you want to further maximize cooling efficiency, Thermaltake has already included a second set of Anti-vibration Soft Mounts which you can use to install another 120 mm exhaust fan across the preinstalled in-take fan.

The Thermaltake Contac 29, is an excellent and upgrade-ready CPU cooler at a formidable price point, more details can be found here.

I'll just state the obvious. It looks like a Xigmatek RS1283. The closed off sides of the fins may have some benefit over the Xigmatek.. maybe not.

You got that right, its just a cheaper knockoff or copy. It makes no secret and even uses the same 8mm heatpipes on the exact same distance. It also uses rubber fan mountings.

is it me or all cooling manufacturers are coping xigmatek's idea?

there is probably a factory somewhere in asia just pumping these things out like crazy...

Thermaltake: "nah we can't make it look identical... close off the sides... AH - perfect. Now no one will know that its a 1283. Now to rub the X off the box..."

In now way am I defending the ones who ride the coat tails of the 1283, but they do offer things the 1283 didn't. If they can do it cheaper and maybe squeeze out a degree or two over its original version, I say good for them.

Budget only because these HDT coolers are so much cheaper to manufacture.

Dont understand you kids at all, who cares if they copied?
How much difference is there anyway between these coolers? I tell you, not much.

You are like this about the Antec 900 as well (omg copy!!! ....yeah who cares?)

seriously, if it works well and is cheap then woohoo imo.

the point is that who cares if 20 companies have the same product under their own names - it just makes them look bad for not being able to come up with something themselves.

"lets buy that guys product and sell it at the same price with our sticker on it" is just somewhat lame.

The airflow resistance (or is it static resistance), whatever, I imagine it could be lower because of that rippled edge.

But still, they should've include the same "dent" design as on the OCZ Vendetta 2, more dissipation area..

I'd buy it if it is cheaper than the Xigmatek version. I want to see someone rip off a v8 successfully lol.

Looks nice and a bit different than the 1283 which I was one of the first to get :D. Now as for the price, I Do not see it mentioned. What are they going for, does anyone know?

Well the ripples and the extra fan mount can possible make it better compared to the xigy. I have the vendetta 2 and that's a copy of the xiggy as well but it does a good job.

So is this the 3rd Xigmatek clone (Kingwin, OCZ, TT), or are there others I'm missing?

Not exactly, they have that lower heatsink design which kinda sets it apart from the xiggy.
-----------------
But Xigmatek wasn't the first to come out with this ever so popular HDT / heatsink design anyway, I forget who it was... but I will find out. Does anyone know what company it was? I know I read it in an article somewhere, it was like some company I've never heard of.

Xilence? Alpenfoehn? Gelid? Thermolab? Sunbeamtech? Evercool? Titan? AVC?
