Upcoming Intel Core CPUs Detailed

Intel is poised to release new performance and high-end processors across its various Core family brands, within Q1 2010 and later. OCWorkbench, citing sources in Japan, released tentative release dates and information of new Core family processors. Among a few known names such as the six-core Core i7 980X, there are a few new ones. Details and dates are as follows:

Core i7 980X "Gulftown": six-core, LGA-1366, 3.33 GHz (turbo: 3.60 GHz), March 16
Core i7 970 "Bloomfield": quad-core, LGA-1366, 3.33 GHz (turbo: 3.46 GHz), Q3, 2010
Core i7 930 "Bloomfield": quad-core, LGA-1366, 2.80 GHz (turbo: 3.06 GHz), February 28
Core i7 880 "Lynnfield": quad-core, LGA-1156, 3.06 GHz (turbo: 3.73 GHz), Q2, 2010
Core i5 680 "Clarkdale": dual-core, LGA-1156, 3.60 GHz (turbo: 3.80 GHz), Mid-May
Core i3 550 "Clarkdale": dual-core, LGA-1156, 3.20 GHz, Q2, 2010
Pentium E6700 "Wolfdale-2M": dual-core, LGA-775, 3.43 GHz, Q2, 2010

Although the Core i7 960 is available in its OEM form, the company doesn't plan to retail it with its retail packaging.

I mean the cpu runs at 3.60 and Turbos to 3.80ghz.... Why bother. :rolleyes:

I think it will replace the 920, so whatever 920 sells for now. Maybe 920 will get cheaper by $30 (till stocks last), who knows.

Its pretty straight forward that the TDP of the Gulftown model is over 100W. I'm stilling waiting.

Wolfdale 2Ms are indeed 2meg cache cpus, really puts a damper on the performance.

Default multi would be 23 and turbo multi would be 24 making the turbo speed 3.2GHz.

3.72ghz seems right. turbo goes up by 5x in turbo mode.
133*28 = 3.73ghz

Maybe its the max single core turbo, since the turbo multiplier is different depending on how many cores are loaded.

Hmm, are the i5 8xx chip different then? I haven't seen mine do anything above x21 that is 1x above default.

Would love to have such a single thread boost.

edit: supposedly my i5 750 should go to 24multi and 3.2GHz too on single core, might be bios settings then.

i7 8xx get 5x on single core 4x dual where as i5 gets 4x on single and dual threads. Load up your fav stress test program, set it to 2 threads or 1 and see for yourself.

This one (980X) will be around $1000 but there will be a series of Intel 6 core cpus soon. The 4 core 920/930/960 etc will be replaced by 6 core 32nm CPUs. Cheapest 6 core will be like the 920 around $300-$400.

Think of the e6700 Wolfdale as an e5300 factory overclocked to 1066.

the chips to watch for will be the xeon x56XX chips.
