Galaxy is working on a single-slot graphics card based on the GF100 in its GeForce GTX 470 version. If that didn't boggle your mind, the fact that it's not another card with a water-block, but a single-piece air-cooled card surely will. Enter the Galaxy GTX 470 model known as "Katana" in Japan and "Razor" in other markets. The PCB appears to be a little over 10 inches long, looks-wise makes use of Galaxy's Blue-silver-copper scheme from its other non-reference GTX 470 GC card.

The single-slot air cooler covers the entire length of the PCB, with a fan that draws air from both sides of the PCB, and has grills that reveal the cooler's internal network of copper air-channels, and a slab of copper that is spread across most of the PCB's area that holds the GPU and memory. The cooler makes use of vapour-chamber technology. The card draws power from 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors. It is 4-way SLI capable. It is expected that the card comes with at least NVIDIA reference clock speeds, all other specifications remain the same: 448 CUDA cores, 1280 MB of GDDR5 memory across 320-bit interface, and connectivity which includes two DVI-D and a mini HDMI. It is expected to deck up Galaxy's Computex booth.

Its nice to see a single slot solution....Now the temps need to be revealed for this cooling solution.

i dont see the point of it being single slot,it will be hotter and louder then the dual slot(of course cheeper too :) ) but i quess we have do wait for reviews for that thing

I bet the air behind the card will be omlet friendly..My 5850 air is pretty hot but is suportable and is dual slot.I am thinking how the air for 470 on a single slot... grrrrr

folding farms/easier SLI

Galaxy's doing a lot of single-slots recently iirc, a single-slot GTX 260 and GTS 250 as well right?

i wonder if my friend in india will be able to use this, 45*c during daytime

I can see these cards being used for a great folding farm. But I read somewhere recently that the GTX 4xx dont seem to work too well with folding, is that true?

Yes indeed.

that looks so cheap i would rather the 2 slot one, mite be one slot but i bet that fan is way loud

+1 It looks like a toy. But i guess its the performance, heat and power consumption that matters more.

How are they going to dissipate enough heat? It will be a technological marvel if they managed to pull this off, I remember the single slot 4850's being hot demons and this is going to pull more juice than the 4850...

Twice as much to be rather exact. 4850 used 110 W while 470 uses 220 ? could prolly be pushed down quite a few watts with undervolting, but still, gonna be noisy, hot, and mediocre performance.

Hell! i'm running TWO! 5850 Dualslots with a 6 core and a 850 W psu a SSD. it will be good in PICO ITX since mini-itx can mostly run dualslot. I dont see the point in the singleslot....

Although I think that it is a technical impossibility, Thank you Galaxy for being innovative! Side note: that concept and fan is similar to my old GF9600 and in now way is that cooling enough unless it is not a 470 but a 460 ....!!! hahahaha The friend in India is not goping to play any games this summer, apart from chess!!!!

maybe they want you to cook your card ? mite be good in winter as a heater

It's longer than the dual slots GTX470.

Of course. While their two-slot custom GTX 470 is shorter than the reference. :)

Yeah, as long as 9800GTX/GTX280 but single slot.

Nice! I love to see them deliver/cater to unique situations. I wonder what the heatsink looks like. The 260 single slotter had a copper brick on it.

With a vapor chamber base, taking the place of the DT heatpipes of the normal cooler, and copper fins instead of aluminum, I don't see how this would be that impossible. The biggest issue is going to be getting the fan to push enough air, I bet it is going to be a screamer.

I'm thinking those that need a single slot solution for a high power graphics processor dont really care about noise. A better alternative to the stock fan would be to increase/monitor case airflow. Exceptional air flow is a MUST!

what use is a heater that doesnt distribute heat to the air? :slap: Physics fail

I bet that on full load you can place a cup on it and boil yourself some tea water

The Kitana.. Cuts through butter with ease! (cos its HOT)
by entropy13 (2:38 PM) - Reply
Why the difference of "Katana" and "Razor" though? It's not like the former's not in the English dictionary already, unlike for example "Mugen" or "Yasya" from Scythe. And "Katana" sounds better than the already cliche "Razor".
