3DMark 11 Launch Delayed, No New Release Date At Hand

The launch of Futuremark's anticipated DirectX 11 graphics benchmark suite 3DMark 11, has been delayed. The software was earlier slated for release on the 30th of November, with pre-ordering already underway. The company is citing last-minute bugs as a reason for the delay. In a circular to the press, Futuremark said: "Over the weekend we made the difficult decision to postpone the launch of 3DMark 11 by a few days. Our aim is that 3DMark 11 should provide accurate, reliable and consistent results from the start. With that goal in mind we are taking some extra time now to fix a couple of difficult bugs rather than patching the benchmark immediately after launch."

The company does not have a new release date at hand, as it doesn't know how long the last-minute bug-squashing will take. "It might take a day, it might be a week, but either way we'll be in touch again soon to confirm the new launch date...," the circular added. 3DMark 11 is a comprehensive 3D hardware performance benchmark suite that makes use of the DirectX 11 API, making use of the very latest in consumer 3D graphics. It also provides an insight into what level of detail and realism one can expect from this generation of graphics processors.

I'm pretty disappointed in this...but dem's da breaks. I hope it doesn't take too long...but a working app is much better than a broken one. They've offered all pre-orders a copy of "Shattered Horizon" because of the delay, too.

I've always thought that the best measure of a company's customer service is how it behaves when things go wrong or it's product breaks. Companies that do things like this tend to make people forget about the problem before it's even happened.

i guess the benchmarks weren't properly showing the results they wanted. aka the gpu company who bribed the most was still not getting the performance they were promised. this thing is eye candy. thats it. it provides ZERO relevant comparisons in hardware. unless you consider a larger marketing/bribery budget of a gpu company to provide any sort of value whatsoever. ding ding, here comes pavlov's bell.

Tell that to the guys who benchmark for a living, as in get paid to live off of this sort of thing. It has its place even if it is just "eye candy".

Interesting they still haven't updated their main page. It still says it will be launched November 30th. You would think that the people purchasing this right now who don't look on their forums or read tech news articles will feel a bit slighted.

Sucks. Much rather this than them releasing a broken product though. It wouldn't take long for a little bug to screw up a lot of scores.

Fail. Why does software get delayed? It's not like there's a shortage caused by TSMC moving to a new transistor base...

... BUGS. Its a benchmark and needs consistent repeatable results!!!

Meh, I can wait to pay for another benchmark. ;)

New date for release!!

Well, here it is:
Hello

It took us a little longer than planned, but 3DMark 11 has now gone
gold. Earlier today we announced that 3DMark 11 will be released at
14:00 GMT on Tuesday December 7, 2010.

From that time onwards you will be able to download 3DMark 11 from the
Futuremark website and start submitting results to the new online
service. You will need the upgrade code from your pre-order
confirmation email to activate the Advanced Edition so make sure you
have it to hand on Tuesday.

Till then, happy benchmarking!

Warm Regards,

Oliver Baltuch
President
Futuremark Inc.

I so hope that they dont have tests that have proprietary hardware/software modify the overall score again like they did before.

Aegia and Nvidias Physx modifying the CPU score!?!?!?!? That really annoyed me. Separate it or dont have it at all.

or keep the scores blended knowing most of the consumer base won't know the difference, and the ppl who paid you to do so can continue reaping the benefits of mass ignorance.
