Asus Readies the E-450-Powered Eee PC 1225B Netbook

Next month Asus is set to add a new member to its Eee PC line, the Eee PC 1225B which runs Windows 7 Home Premium, features an 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display, and is powered by an AMD Brazos APU, either the 1.0 GHz C-60 or the much more enticing 1.65 GHz E-450.

The incoming netbook weights 1.4 kg and also has 2/4 GB of RAM, up to a 750 GB hard drive, integrated DirectX 11 graphics (Radeon HD 6290 for the C-60 version, Radeon HD 6320 for the E-450 unit), a 0.3-megapixel webcam, LAN, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 (this is optional), stereo speakers, an SD/MMC card reader, D-Sub and HDMI outputs, and a 6-cell battery allowing for up to 7 hours of operation per charge.

The Eee PC 1225B will be available in five color versions - gray, red, silver, black and white, and is supposed to start at 349 Euro.

the 1.65ghz E-450 one wouldn't be to bad of an upgrade over my aging gateway athlon x2 netbook.

I got curious recently and checked out the nearby mall and was unpleasantly surprised. The C-50 and C-60 systems were almost twice the price of similarly sized atom netbooks. I know the performance is noticeably better but AMD should seriously think about lowering the price if they want to grab a bigger piece of the netbook pie...

Prices aren't that high really. I've seen C-50 and C-60 netbooks below 300 EUR mark. Some C-50's were even 250 EUR. That's considered very cheap. I got my Compaq CQ57 (E-450/4GB/500GB) for 344 EUR. It's a 15 incher but still, it's considered dirty cheap if you ask me. Atom N450/N455 cost nearly the same and they are absolute rubbish when it comes to web Flash video and HD video. And even games. Something where AMD tears through easily.

just bought 2 of these, just with 500GB HDDs for a mere 300 the piece, for a friend and his family... awesome little machines, with much power, good cooling and low noise...due to both VGA and HDMI outs,and the APU design, the perfect mobile and at home multimedia device;)

Can they overclock like the bigger APU's? I know a lot of people are getting 2.4-3ghz out of the A6 and A8's

with a modded bios or clockgen, maybe... but officially... no;)

The A series mobile chips have no multi lock. So more was wondering if k10stat works on them in the same manor. Will research myself and post back. Hopefully they are all axp-m style :)


~~EDIT from what I can tell they cannot be overclocked from K10stat according to HWbot. However some forums people claim to have them overclocked/undervolted via K10stat.

really?
they are real cheap here. im sure those shops had intel paying them to price AMD ones higher.
here the e350s cost a little more than the atom.
and the e350 feels way faster than the atom.

They are about $300 if you can find one here. Most are sold out or priced stupidly. When it jumps to $400+ I would rather get an Asus A53TA or X53TA and see the benefits of a real CPU/GPU combo...
