Hawken Launching As Free-to-Play with Beta

The highly anticipated first person shooter/Mech simulator Hawken is stated to be released on the 12th of December this year. 12-12-12. What makes this an interesting development is the game will be released under the a free-to-play model. Normally a free-to-play model is really just a pay for extended content model. How Adhesive Games the Hawken developer is going to set this up is unknown. What is known is the game looks to be quite beautiful with a slight Quake 3 feel to it. Luckily for the Mech junkies in the PC community we will have access to a beta before we make the plunge in December. If you sign up three friends Adhesive Games will reserve your call sign when the game finally debuts. Open enrollment has already started. You can sign up here.

So what are you waiting for? Get to blasting!

Could be fun. Already signed up for Mechwarrior Online and now this. Huge Mechwarrior 2 fan.

There's a couple videos floating around, I'll see if I can dig em up.

When is the post-apocalyptic fad going to die?

I don't think it's post-apocalyptic so much as it is a cityscape torn up by giant mechs in urban combat.

Post-apocalyptic isn't a fad. It's a Russian citizen simulation (with a splash of North Korea).

looks good... would be better for me if it also included normal footsoldier squad play like BF2143! :)

I used to love BF2143!

I think you mean BF2142.... We are all still waiting on BF2143!..hehehe As much as I love BF3.. I can't wait for BF2143! :toast:

Now about Hawken.. It looks really good, but Free-to-play kills it for me.. I wanted BF Hero's to work too, but with all the kids that get there parents to dump loads of money into it to build there character way up... It sucked ass... And it takes forever to even get to the next level for free... :banghead: Now I may be wrong about this for Hawken.. but I'll have to see it to believe it. If they put limits on the game.. say if a person spends 40 bucks every 6 months or maybe even a year.. They should be maxed out on game advantage weapons and such.. but still allow someone to spend more than 40 but only be able to buy hats! and shit.. Valve already showed us how much gamers like to get new hats in game..

Ive always been a mecha fan. though Im not initially impressed by the designs but maybe i just love shit like Armored Core or Gundam too much.

Terribly sorry for the off-topic, but how do you apply for the beta access of MechWarrior Online? I've signed up on their site ("reserved the pilot name"), confirmed the email too but by the looks of it it's only created a forum account for me.

Am I the only person who thought this was another Tony Hawk game?

I saw some screens and was thinking ok.. so Tony Hawk meets Rage.. interesting.

Great! I love these type of games, still play MW4:Mercenaries.
Reminds a lot of the Mechwarrior series, even have jumpjets on them.

Wonder if they can be customized, with different loadouts.

Just found out that one of my friends is involved with Hawken! She told me about it and i was surprised a game like this went by my radar! In any case, the gameplay reminds me of the Armored Core series!

Really looking forward to this game! :toast:
