Resident Evil 7 for PC will support HDR and 4K, No Cross Saves for Steam

Japanese developer and publisher Capcom has publicized that the PC version of their anticipated Resident Evil 7 game will support up to 4K resolutions and HDR. Naturally HDR will remain dependent on being connected to a compatible TV or panel, whereas high resolution support could provide additional levels of image quality through the use of super sampling on screens that do not support such resolutions natively. It is said that HDR will complement the immersive experience, better enabling the game to deliver overwhelming fear and ultimate horror.

As previously revealed by Capcom, Resident Evil 7 will also support cross saves between the PC and Xbox One versions of the game, however this will only be possible if you purchase it for PC on the Windows Store. Resident Evil 7 is also available on Steam and this version will not support cross saving. Resident Evil 7 will be available for PC on the 25 January, 2017.
The System Requirements are listed below. Note that Minimum targets 1080p/30fps, and Recommended targets 1080p/60fps. We can only speculate at this stage as to what hardware would be required for 4k/30fps or 4k/60fps.

MINIMUM:
  • OS: WINDOWS 7,8,8.1,10 (64-BIT Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX-6300 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260x with 2GB Video RAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Sound Card: DirectSound compatible (must support DirectX 9.0c or higher)
  • Additional Notes: Hardware specification target 1080P/30FPS. *Internet connection required for game activation. The game is still undergoing development, so all PC requirements are subject to change.
RECOMMENDED:
  • OS: WINDOWS 7,8,8.1,10 (64-BIT Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz or AMD equivalent or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 280X or better with 4GB Video RAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Sound Card: DirectSound compatible (must support DirectX 9.0c or higher)
  • Additional Notes: Hardware specification target 1080P/60FPS. *Internet connection required for game activation. The game is still undergoing development, so all PC requirements are subject to change.

A Resident Evil game doesn't seem to be one of the genres that really needs Cross Saving considering this is not an open-world RPG or racing game.

I'm pretty sure people will be able to beat the game in under 6 to 7 hours unless they integrate some sort of open world or daily quest elements that warrants it.

Given what we know about RE7, there's nothing open world about it. It's not even just that it's linear, but so far it all seems to take place in a single house.

I have 5 and 6 on PC and haven't played through... I beat 5 on the PS3 back in the day. Need to get back into these games bad.

I hate this constant obsession with open world. It's stupid. Open world games usually have rubbish story because it's just bunch of events thrown into an open world. But when you have a semi linear design like Deus Ex has, multiple paths through otherwise linear levels gives far better story narration as well as events and also has replay value. It's almost bizarre how people only know linear levels from old school shooters like Quake where only one path lead you forward and GTA/The Elder Scrolls type of games as open world. I love games like Deus Ex and System Shock 2 because they offer best of both worlds.

So, Resident Evil not being open world is only a plus in my book. Resident Evil was never about running around doing stupid quests, it was about horror and immersion.

This must be reminiscent of Capcom's console days, but supporting a particular resolution on PC is not newsworthy.

unless RE7 suddenly become a great game like RE4 was (best title IMO), I think I'll pass on it unless it start selling at 10€ or is offered bundled with a piece of hardware.

I've done RE5 and tested RE6 on PC, but i wasn't really positive on the future of the franchise...

Edit : I agree with RejZoR, Open World is really a bad orientation for games. It must serve a purpose (like Minecraft), not way of playing.

Not necessarily. Gothic and Gothic 2 are open world titles and are the best RPGs I have ever played.
That a lot of titles use open world as an excuse to skimp on the story is not an inherent flaw of open world titles. A good title is a combination of many factors.

Did you play Burnout : Paradise ?

I think it's the worst of the series because of the open world thing was not used at all. There's no story needed for Racing games, so why put an open world ? Because of the hype !
Sure, Open World isn't the thing that make bad games, but very often, it's not well used, and end up in a boring game. That's why I hate when they are trying to put "Open World" in every sentence about the game.

I haven't played that title (or any other in the series), but I can think of a reason to have an open world racing game. It lets you beat take on any challenge, at any time you think you're ready. In Gothic that ended in countless game reloads, but at the same time it made the victory upon each new foe that much sweeter.
