AMD Ryzen PRO Desktop Processors Released Worldwide

Building on the global enthusiasm generated by the launch of Ryzen high-end desktop processors and EPYC server processors for the datacenter, AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) today announced broad adoption of enterprise solutions featuring AMD Ryzen PRO desktop processors. Designed for business, Ryzen PRO processors bring reliability, security, and performance to address the demands of today's compute-intensive enterprise-focused workloads. Commercially-focused desktop solutions based on these new processors are expected to be available from Dell, HP, and Lenovo in the coming weeks.

Global OEM Support
In the coming months, enterprise customers can plan to purchase Ryzen PRO processor-based systems from top PC vendors including Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Actually, the coolest thing would be black PCB, everything else has black, white, or whatever other color except lame green PCB, just the CPUs continue with the green PCB.

.....until they make a total acrylic/transparent hsf or tower cooler....no one will ever know.....but yeah still the black will be cool for about the 20 seconds you look at it before popping it in the system.

What are you getting at? DT Ryzen (non-pro) even supports unregistered DIMMs. Its not like the standard Core i7s and single-socket Xeon 1XXX v4 series are shipping all over the place with RDIMMs...

If you want RDIMM support then EPYC is the solution.

Yeah, true, but the same can be said about motherboards used in solid panel cases, or video cards with backplates and so on, you do not actually see the PCB, but it's still cool to be black.
I mean, for instance, the HEDT CPUs with their black boxes and so on, not even those have a black die in the PCB solution :)

ECC isn't the same thing as registered memory. Unregistered memory for the consumer is usually non-ECC but, there is unregistered ECC memory. Registered memory is driven differently because the signal is buffered by a chip on the DIMM which essentially amplifies the signal coming out of the IMC to lessen the load on the IMC itself so you can drive more DIMMs per channel due to the reduction in IMC load (in terms of current to drive the DIMM directly.)

Registered memory is only important if you're running a platform that uses it exclusively and where your memory needs are greater than computational needs because there is a latency cost to buffering a DIMM. ECC on the other hand has very little impact on how the DIMM is driven. It's just a DIMM with an extra memory chip that stores a parity bit for every "word" in terms of memory. I honestly think that it's stupid that everything doesn't support ECC already with the exception of very low power mobile devices but, most of AMD's CPUs can already handle ECC because it's hard to screw up XOR. I honestly think Intel is stupid for not handling ECC on their consumers chips because it's not like it makes a huge difference and it's entirely possible that the hardware can already handle it and that Intel just locks you out of it. I think it's a minor weakness and show of stupidity on Intel's part. It might be me but, I see it as a statement from AMD saying "look, our hardware for the consumer is just as stable as the hardware for the server market," and I think that's a good message to send but, it's not one that most people really care about.

I mean they do not officially support it nor validate it. As @R-T-B says, some motherboards support it, but not all does afaik. Here's the quote from a Reddit AMA:

"Validated means run it through server/workstation grade testing. For the first Ryzen processors, focused on the prosumer / gaming market, this feature is enabled and working but not validated by AMD. You should not have issues creating a whitebox homelab or NAS with ECC memory enabled."

Also Windows seems to have issues with detecting ECC as enabled, per this article.

Yes, I get it, it works, but it has Pro in the name, so one would expect it to be validated by now. Yes funds and all that, but still.

So what's the difference between these and standard Ryzen chips..? How does the Ryzen 5 1600 PRO compare to my 1600x? It says nothing about how the PRO differs from the standard chips...

Lower end parts generally outsell the rest of the lineup most of the time , so it wouldn't be a surprise.

However honestly R3s don't look all that great to me. Sure I'd pick them up over an i3 any day but the cheapest R5 is so close in terms of price I'd pick one of those instead.
