Wii Outselling Rivals

Preliminary figures for North America suggest that the Nintendo Wii is comfortably outselling its two major rivals, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. The Wii managed to sell 436,000 units during January, with the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 selling 294,000 and 244,000 consoles respectively. The Wii is also the cheapest of the three, whilst the Xbox 360 is next cheapest and the Playstation 3 comes in as the most expensive (and arguably most feature-packed, albeit somewhat unwanted) next generation console. Figures for the Playstation 2 have not been released, although it has been the major seller in the previous months.

640x480 resolution is not next gen. It's so 10 years ago.

It's still the most fun console I've ever been privileged enough to own, aside perhaps the original NES.

Next generation could be interpreted as more than just graphics.

Yesterday, while @ BEST BUY w/ a pal of mine who was shopping for stereo speakers, I took a look @ the Playstation 3, while nice, it was priced pretty high up there ($600 U.S. Dollars iirc, or thereabouts), & the XBox360 was considerably less & pretty awesome as well... would be hard to decide which was better, quality-wise, but the costs were NOT inline w/ each other by a longshot.

My nephew called me the other night, & told me about this "Wii" thing, because he has one, & he tells me that to use it, you have a controller that say, if you were playing a U.S. style football game, as the Quarterback, you have to actually make the movement of throwing a football in order for him to pass... which is pretty neat imo.

It may overtake the others, but, that I never saw playing "live" in front of me either... so, on that account, I have NO 'first-hand' visual experience to make judgements, so I won't... but, still sound VERY COOL/NEAT to have to make the motions of those you are playing as in your games on it.

:)

* All in all though, I am NOT a 'console person', but I did like what I saw in both the XBox360 & PlayStation 3 as far as smoothness & framerates, + games available (saw the sample packs on them, demos you could play, was impressed)... but, I really DO like the fact that this Wii is more 'interactive'...

APK

P.S.=> Speaking of "hands-on"? I tried VISTA too, it's NICE... gotta admit it! apk

Nintendo has stated that the Wii is NOT a next gen console.

Graphically is the only way we can judge a console. The fact that it was released after the GameCube does not make it "next gen" and it tries to make the title "next gen" meaningless.

I dont think the wii will last long...the only thing that is holding it up is that controler and thats it.

Im glad to see Nintendo back on top Dominating. However, as Nintendo stated, its not a "next-gen" console. Just a different approach. As they say, different strokes for different folks. Im not caring one bit about the graphics of the Wii, the thing is damn fun to play and makes you apart of the game, in all honesty. I love my 360, I love playing it and it has awesome qualities, graphics and games. I love playing the Wii too (even though I dont own it) but its a different experience with decent graphics. The ps3 is just engrossing and my eyes glazed over after playing it for like 15 minutes at Wal-Mart. Needless to say, I will own all 3.

Duckhunt isn't a revolutionary game, but tell me it isn't fun
Starcraft is nearly ten years old and still an extremely fun game with a HUGE fan base.
The original Counterstrike is also rediculously old, but with tons of still active players
same for Diablo 2.

Graphical sexiness is not related to fan base/customer base of a game/gaming system.

Therefore, though the Wii may not be revolutionary in terms of CPU and GPU power, it is revolutionary/next gen in terms of fun, and therefore will most probably be here for a while to come.

@OP: Xbox360 sales may be deceptively low, since it's already been out for over a year, so everybody who really really wants one already has one...
