Radeon HD 2900 XT has 102.4 GB/s bandwidth

Fudzilla claims that the Radeon HD 2900 manages an impressive 102.4GB/s memory throughput. The card uses a 512 bit memory interface and 1600 MHz GDDR3 memory. The core was clocked at 800 MHz. For comparison, NVIDIA's G80 with its odd 384 bit memory controller scores 86.4 GB/s.

The new HD 2900 XTX with GDDR 4 memory clocked at 2200 MHz, as originally planned, can theoretically have 140.8 GB/s. Both cards have twice or close to twice more memory bandwidth from ATI's Radeon X1950XTX card. This card was limited to a now modest 64GB/s.

Editors note: The NDA on the R600 makes it impossible for anyone to release accurate benchmarks of the R600. In fact, the NDA is so strict, we'll be lucky if the leaked R600 pictures have any accuracy. The theoretical memory bandwidth was attained by simple math: 512bit * 1600MHz / 8bit = 102.4GB/s.

I remember being amazed at the GeForce 2 Ultra's 7.36GB/sec... :p

not bad at all. I would have thought the memory interface would give nvidia an edge

well its looking like AMD will be my next VGA vendor unless Nvidia does some quite substantial price drops.

For nearly 20GB/s in higher bandwidth, it doesn't seem to effect the supposed 3DMark scores, which wall know is the best game eva made.

D_o_SFudzilla has managed to run some memory throughput benchmarks
Benchmarks?
Errr... No.

It's merely calculated (theoretical) bandwidth:
512bit * 1600MHz / 8bit = 102.4GB/s

R600 will be released on May 14th.

I am sorry to say that, but this is utterly wrong! It's simple math and it doesn't need a genius to come up with this score. Sure, the 102.4GB/s is correct but there's no way how Fuad should have got this number using a memory benchmark.

512 bit / 8 x 1600 MHz = 102.4GB/s

8 bit = 1 Byte

The same applies to the theoretical bandwidth of the 8800GTX:

384 bit / 8 x 1800 MHz = 86.4 GB/s

Update: I just realized that largon was a tad faster uncovering the story (while I was writing my post). Anyway, I will leave my post here...

ffs, forgive my language, but was there a need to post yet another irrelevant r600 topic? I think not, pretty big waste of our time when the calculation is easy to do ourselves....

I wouldn't have figured it out or even thought about it if someone didn't mention it but maybe i am just to lazy.

No, what i mean is that it was announced as if it was got via testing benching and was therefore a great revelation deserving of a front page tpu post, but in reality just reminding us of the equation and then saying apply that to the r600 and compare would have sufficed :)

You cannot believe the benchmarks since anyone who owns the R600 IS NOT WHATSOEVER ENTITLED TO VOID THE NDA, doing so could land you in prison/muted. Most people don't know that and so believe the benchmarks. This huge bandwidth and huge processing power (.5Tflop, announced by AMD, and not some "Sources". Equates together to be one of the most powerful GPUs, ever, however the bandwidth doesnt seem right as it is inevitably a rumor.

Get this in your head all TPU'ers who think the benchmarks and the info are real:

ANYONE WHO OWNS AN R600 IS NOT ENTITLED TO ALLOW ANY INFORMATION ABOUT IT LEAK OUT, NOT EVEN HOW MUCH IT KICKS NVIDIA, THERE IS THE NDA IN PLACE AND IF YOU VOID IT YOU MAY END UP IN PRISON.

Oh yeah don't go like this on another forum:
Betapeople arn't always the law abiding citzens you seem to think they, NDA's(No Discloure Agreement) have been broken alot, for all we know this is REAL and this card really does SUCK ARSE

and it other news. the new ATI features a DRM (Digital Rights Managment) chip which means you cant rip off movies with it... how gay

Hey tk, is that your missus??? <--- in that pic...

When are these friggin cards coming out.. I want one, I almost bought a 8800 yesterday but decided to stay true... isnt it funny how you like a certain brand so much and yet they do exactly the same thing as the other brand... :D

They sound like nice cards though, hope we don't see to many driver probs..

Radeon HD 2900 saves baby from burning building, bangs Jessica alba and biel at the same time:eek: What will super card do next:confused:

I'm getting tired of the AMD rumor mill and the delays. There product is always going to be the best but as of late is just slightly better then the one before. I'm talking about AM2 and the x1x50s.
I hope this is the sh#t though:rockout:

The bandwidth of the chip is all theory, you can break out some math and get a basic guess as to what the possible bandwidth of the chip is anyway. But i have to admit those numbers are pretty huge. The real question is how much of that bandwidth will actually go to good use.

I hope AMD sticks to their "new" release date and can deliver these cards in volume once they are released, I think were all having fun discussing the possibilities of the new card but are all eager to just see what the damn thing can do already! :toast:

haha nice one, they better stick to the date. I was somewhat worried about 512mb ram but I guess this bus makes up for it.. still might wait for the 2900xtx2. :D

quite impressive performance.... although this is just a theoretical benchmark, we will see the true performance when they released it... hope AMD will not delay the release date again....
