AMD/ATI Planning new mid-range video card: the RV670

If you look at the current offerings from AMD/ATI, you can see that there is quite a large gap between midrange and high-end video cards. In contrast to the previous offerings, where the gap between X1950GT and X1950XTX was somewhat small, the Radeon 2900XT is easily two to three times as powerful as the Radeon 2600XT. Fortunately, AMD/ATI is planning to remedy this by developing the RV670. The current rumors say that it will be a 65nm chip, clocked similarly to the HD 2900, but with an unknown amount of ROP's, or TMU's. We should hear more about this chip in Q3, and if all goes well, it will be released by this Christmas.

that's good news. I was beginning to think that the 2600XT was the best card offered by ATI before going to the high end. Not only was the performance difference big, but so was the price. Hmm... this could be on my Christmas wishlist.

When AMD/ATI merged, did they forget the basics of having products at each price point. unbelievable.

Of course, I dont believe really in paying over $400 for a video card as its just not worth it to me. But I like the offerings of strategic cards at strategic price points.

I max out at about $300, but obviously I don't like to spend that.

It would be nice to have something a bit faster than the 2600XT and a bit cheaper than the 2900XT.

I limit my video cards to $200-$250. I would do $300 max if I had to. My 9800 Pro I had cost me the most so far. $209+ tax and shipping.

Christmas time this year is looking to be promising to use geeks.

I was figuring there'd be a 2900gt out in the next month or so to fill the gap some. I just can't see them scrapping all the bad 2900 cores.
I hope they have a 2900xtx coming up soon or NV is just going to keep spanking them:slap:
