Gigabyte's B760 Aorus Elite Makes an Early Appearance

Not entirely unexpected, pictures of the first B760 motherboard, or at least its packaging and the board inside the packaging, has made an appearance online. We're around a month or so from the expected announcement of Intel's more cost effective 700-series chipset, which will likely follow the Z790 chipset by adding more PCIe 4.0 lanes, but otherwise differ very little from the current B660 chipset.

No actual details were provided when it comes to the specs of the Gigabyte B760 Aorus Elite AX DDR4, but it's likely that this will be the last generation of DDR4 motherboards. This is because it's unlikely that Intel will support DDR4 memory on future desktop PC platforms. What we can spot through the antistatic bag, is a board design that is very similar to Gigabyte's current B660 Aorus Elite AX DDR4, but with a new motif on the chipset and NVMe drive heatsinks. In fact, the board layout appears to be near identical from what little we can see, but there are some clearly visible component placement that can be seen and compared to the current model. Hopefully we'll get some better pictures of this board in the near future from the leaker.

With all the clearance sales recently on PC parts, my $170 Z-690 Aero-G is still the best bang for buck imo. It's one of the only mobo's I have ever seen to have this much cold metal on it. The NVME cooler on the mobo keeps my 7000 read/write gen4 drive at 30 celsius under load, its insane. At least, when I zoom in it looks bigger than most other boards I have seen.

So B760 will be DDR4 only? No thanks, I'd get a Z690 for Raptor lake if that's the case.

B760 chipset just like the B660 chipset supports both DDR4 and DDR5.

Ok well that's good to know and what I ooriginally thought about the B660. Article made it sound like it was DDR4 only. Will be interesting to compare higher end B760 against Z690 mid-tier for features and price. Don't care about OCing at all.

That cpu should be a beast. I'm guessing it will go for $350 USD.

It's like $550 cad.

I have right now a 12400f which I will sell to pay off towards the 13700

Picked up also 32gb DDR5 5600 for like 200$ cad on sale too

Curious why you would upgrade only 1 generation?

The 12400 is 6 cores / 12 threads. The 13700 is 8 cores / 24 threads with more cache would be my guess.

The 12400f was a place holder actually.

Well I would expect it would take an Arrow Lake 15400 to beat a 13700 in single and multi. So more like a 2-3 generation upgrade.
