New 3DMark 2006 World Record

Well it seems that the 3DMark06 wars still rage on since it didnt take long for NVIDIA to take the crown from ATI when a team from GREECE with the known to many hipro5 managed to break Kinc's world record of 25972 by reaching 26008. Small margin but then again that's how kinc managed to surpass the world record made by Shamino a week ago. Hipro5 used a ASUS StrikerEXtreme mainboard an Intel Core 2 Quad 6700 clocked at 4980 MHz, two 1GB Ram modules and 2 x XFX NVIDIA 8800 Ultras clocked at 1008MHz core, 2484MHz Shaders and 1224MHz rams. I knew they would. Again, it is a small margin but isnt that a lower proc than the ones the other two used? Amazing scores and like I said in the ATI world record thread, it would only be a matter of time before the ultras make their debut <g>

Well im sure they could squeeze more MHz from the CPU and the cards but mostly the CPU. Why they didn't i don't know.

So ? The Q6700 has room to go above 5000MHz as proven in other records. Thats why i dont understand why they didnt push it above 5000MHz thats all.

yeah I noticed that too, on the link. But the font on that site is kindly small and easy to overlook and confuse. Im sure with a bit more on the proc, and a smidge on the cards, they could have gone higher. Id like to see Rinco (SP?) go higher on both of his (cpu and gpu) though it sucks, ATI doesnt independently clock their "stream" processors.

not pushing the equipment to the max is an easy way of guaranteeing you can break the record again with ease should you get surpassed shortly after breaking the record originally, no doubt these guys are waiting for the ATI fans response before raising the bar once more.

What is sad is that the 2900's are matched with the ultras in 3dmark but suck compared in games!

Well ATI always did nice in 3DMark thats why a long time ago NVIDIA tried to cheat on it but got cought ( then again so did ATI ). In games however which is what really counts ATI is way back.

yogurt_21anyone other than me notice that the difference is all cpu performance?

kinc
sm2.0 10413
sm3.0 11850
cpu 7540

service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2551377

hellas oc team
sm 2.0 10224
sm 3.0 11875
cpu 7813
service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2574448

semms like ati is still winning, it's the cpu config, that gave the hellas team the advantage, not the ultras.
300 points, meh. But remember I don't think the ati team is using a x16 for xfire. Also, I'm thinking the ultras can pull 300 points, but hellas may be holding back as a few people have said.
