id Software Announces New FPS

id Software is adding a new franchise to its popular lineup of first person shooters. During QuakeCon in Dallas, Co-founder John Carmack and CEO Todd Hollenshead revealed their newest title 'Rage,' a FPS that operates on the new id tech5 game engine. The game will provide plenty of indoor and outdoor shooting and will also include racing elements and vehicle customization. The HD Trailer can be seen here

John CarmackThere will be a Doom 4, we don’t have it scheduled or a team assigned to it, but there will be a Doom 4. There’s going to be a Quake Arena sequel. There’s a Wolfenstein thing in production. We’re following along with all those. This game doesn’t have to be Doom. It’s going to be something different.

The game is called Castle Wolfenstein, and is coming to the PS3, 360, and of course...the PC. The game is developed by raven software, the guys who made RTCW.

Oh dear I can't wait.

I know the next game I'm pre-ordering.

They did a kickass+1 job on enemy territory.

I thought raven had a part in ET.

Doom 3 was such a disappointment and hit the bargain bins within weeks of launch. I guess ID realised that, to make something of a commercial success, they needed to build a new franchise, because they'd already "spent" their DOOM credits with the amazing for the first 10 minutes, but after that, the same old, tunnel-bumpmap-predictably-jump out-of-a-darkcorner monster nonsense.

ID revolutionised 3D gaming in the 90's. I hope they can do something again in the 00's. DOOM3 was no paradigm shift, but a let down. WE ALL REMEMBER HL2 over D3.

I loved doom 3. :)

And still do. Theres not a single game out that even approaches what they did with the "real" environment.

I hate half life 2 though. seemed like a piss poor attempt at a FPS zelda. :wtf:

push crate off hill.
lift ramp.
drive boat over ramp.
rinse, lather, and repeat.
