GT300 A Leap Forward for NVIDIA GPU Architecture

Every once in a while, comes a GPU by NVIDIA that marks the evolution of GPU architecture for NVIDIA. A good example of this would be the G80, which was a distinct evolution of the GPU architecture for the company. Sources tell Hardware-Infos that the GT300 is on course of being one such GPU that comes with distinct architectural changes. To begin with, GT300 will start the company's DirectX 11 conquest the way its ancestor, the G80 did for DirectX 10, which turned out to be largely a successful one.

The GT300's architecture will be based on a new form of number-crunching machinery. While today's NVIDIA GPUs feature a SIMD (single instruction multiple data) computation mechanism, the GT300 will introduce the GPU to MIMD (multiple instructions multiple data) mechanism. This is expected to boost the computational efficiency of the GPU many-fold. The ALU cluster organization will be dynamic, pooled, and driven by a crossbar switch. Once again, NVIDIA gets to drop clock-speeds and power consumptions, while achieving greater levels of performance than current-generation GPUs. With GT300, NVIDIA will introduce the next major update to CUDA. With the new GPUs being built on the 40nm silicon fabrication process, transistor counts are expected to spiral-up. NVIDIA's GT300 is expected to go to office in Q4 2009, with its launch schedule more or less dependent on that of Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system that brings in DirectX 11 support.

what happened to having multiple DX versions for an OS, i mean Win 98 had what 4 different DX versions before XP replaced it?

DirectX 11 will run on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista (and their enterprise variants (server 2008...its successor))

I guess, what I'm wondering is if that instruction will be put to productive use. I think the developers of Windows have gone back to their typical moron instincts with Windows 7 exclusive to DirectX 11.

That's too far away. What about the GT212? That's going to be here sooner, and if it actually has 384 ALU's, what will GT300 have - 512? And in the same year? That's not likely. Somethings fishy.
But it does make you think ahead. Get a single GTX 295 instead of Quad SLi and get half off GT300 by selling it. It seems like the usual fool's wait, but I doubt we'll be seeing any new CPU's for a while, and the i7's are shaping up to be like the G80 - no competition for long term staying power. It's a good time to buy a computer.

Its ben said loads of times, that dx11 aint gonna be exclusive to win7! its gonna work on vista and up. So that means vista, server 2008, win7 and so on

NVIDIA wins...it has the huge die-shrink too, 40nm (unless ATI has a newer architecture on the cards).

no kidding...the only competition for the i7's is the core 2 duo which it replaced lol, not a single AMD product can even beat the duo nevermind the i7...I'm just happy enough people are so brand loyal or so "for the small guy" that they still buy AMD and love their phenoms and phenom 2's for without competition the market would get ugly for the consumers for sure.

I wonder if this is going to be on schedule. Nvidia just reported that their finances are not in that great shape and global economy is in terrible condition. I wouldn't be surprised to see this pushed all the way to Q2 2010. Q4 2009 seems very optimistic.

they did with the 4xxx series, but this looks a bit more serious.
Im waiting for AMD to start winning in both markets to I can spend some money in their market!
(AMD is currently at $2.29, capable of $26 when they come back, free money (NYSE))

Glad to see Nvidia do something new rather than rebadge and rehash. It seems similar to what AMD/ATI does but Nvidia seems to run parallel and not a defacto take all and do what needs to be done, like what ATI is doing. I think ATIs next series will hopefully unleashed the shader clock that has limited them vs Nvidia.

if nvidia does end up dominating the gpu market again, then the future looks bad for graphics cards, remember all the ridiculous stuff nvidia did when the GTX dominated everything on the market.

As I recall nVidia shipped DX10 capable hardware with respect to G80 before Vista was ready. I see no reason for nVidia to wait for Windows 7 (which anyone can get hold of now in beta anyway). Likewise, since Vista will have DX11 support then there is no reason Microsoft can't release it for Vista sooner rather then later (later being Windows 7 RTM).

In either case, DX11 won't likely be usable in any real way (no games or apps) so what GT300 does in DX9 and DX10 will be the real issue. Since we can run DX9 and DX10 games now why not release GT300 now or real soon,...? Like Intel not wanting to hurt P45 / G43 sales now with Core i5 its better to wait and get rid of stock. GT300 may not be ready now but there is no rush from their point of view.

I hate what Nvidia and ATi are doing. they can't let the user enjoy their video cards for at least half a year or more without coming out with new cards, whether it's a die shrink or an entirely new card.

This just left me pondering if I should buy a GTX260 216 or wait a whole year for GT300. If this could be described in words, fuckery would be the term used to describe both companies.
