Rumor: Microsoft to Drop Xbox 360 Elite as Regular Model

Rumor has it, that Microsoft will be ending the mass availability of the Xbox 360 Elite console in many parts of the world and plans on positioning it as a "limited edition" console instead of a regular one like it was until now. That's a result of the drop in the interest of the premium priced console. Consumers choose to buy the Arcade or Pro models and do not pay attention to the more expensive model. Microsoft will start winding down production of the black Xbox 360 Elite model in the spring and will eventually leave just the limited editions of the consoles on the market, like the recently introduced Resident Evil 5 Elite bundle for example. To compensate the small crowd of people that want to have the 120 GB hard drive found in the Elite models, Microsoft is said to prepare an upgrade standalone hard drive that's even bigger than 120 GB. Expect more information in the following weeks.

Hopefully this means a drop in the current HDDs MS has on the market? I hate it that they have a monopoly on that, and I don't want to go through the trouble of hacking a WD HDD to get it working with the 360. God knows if they're doing checks of the HDD.bin file.

Also, Launch console ftw! Only 1 RROD then did an X-Clamp fix. Running perfectly!

Makes sense.

Since the Pro (Premium) got the 60GB HDD, HDMI and smaller CPU and GPU processes there was absolutely no financially viable reason to buy an Elite. £70 more for a black colour scheme and a 60GB more HDD space which most people don't use?

When I got my Elite I got it because of the HDMI, that was the one thing I needed (connectors on my TV only had Scart and HDMI and I was using my Scart), but if I was to go and buy another one today, I'd get a Pro.

I bought my Elite for the black, HDMI, and big HDD so I could have all of my current games installed to HDD, this seems like a stupid idea if you ask me.

This is retarded. They should drop that fucking Arcade model and make the Premium cheaper. The extra 60GB (or 100GB in my case) and black colour is worth the extra money. White looks nice but black is better looking.

I paid €410 for my 20GB Premium and now you can get a 120GB Elite for only €350 and they want to drop it? Pfft. I wish there was some sort of step-up program to get a 60GB HDD cheap for 20GB owners, 13GB can't fit 2 full games and only 2 if one is a small game like L4D which is like 5GB or Guitar Hero 3 which is like 4.5GB.

Another thing they should do is make the hard-drive cheaper, No way I'm paying €120 for a 120GB hard-drive, I can get a 1TB Samsung F1 on my PC got €95 ffs!

I agree arcade is the model that should be dropped. Then all 360's should have the chrome drive bay, and they should have 60GB Pro as basic, then update the Elite with a 160GB or 200Gb, hell even bigger HDD, even keeping the 120GB would be fine IMO.

If all new 360's were Japsers (and they will be in the not too distant future), then I cant see the need for an arcade model if the pricing is right. You cant even play Halo 3 without a HDD! :cry:
