Sony PLAYSTATION2 Goes Down to $99 Tomorrow

The official PLAYSTATION blog posted today that as of next month the second generation Sony PLAYSTATION game console will be sold for as low as $99 MSRP, down from $129. PLAYSTATION 2 recently sold 50 million units in North America, and now the console is cheaper than ever. First released almost nine years ago in year 2000, the PS2 is still loyal to its owners. To date the console offers over 1900 game titles as well as some of the latest games such as MLB '09, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Guitar Hero Metallica and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge.
The new price sounds almost too good to be true, but let us remind you that tommorow is April fools' day.

Well I never use it in the first place since sony seems to think there console is meant for shooters all of a sudden. I bought it to play JRPG's, they have failed me there.

I for one, would love to pickup a new ps2 if they dropped the price a little. My entertainment center is getting really crowded, so if I were to replace my launch ps2 with a slim one, I could have it all better organized, plus I would be able to fit my N64 in there too.

hmm, isnt 99 a bit expensive for a 10 year old box that probaly uses a die surface of an atom ? :P

xD

i bet i can find 360's cheaper soon ;). :P i aint far off, but then comes the harddrive and such. that cost more than the 360 itself lol.

My console just sits 0n my desk not getting used. I have maybe 6 games for my 360. The most I have played is GoW and GoW2. The day I hear Epic say they are releasing GoW2 for the PC is probably the day i sell my 360.

ShadowFoldFeatures? It's a game console. Mine just sits under my TV doing nothing unless there's the occasional game we rent. I think they are all overpriced honestly. They don't do nearly half as much a gaming PC can.

This year the PC gaming market is worth over $20 billion, that figure will rise to $34 billion before 2012, and since 2005 there has been more gaming PCs shipped than the Wii, PS3 and 360 combined. This is the conclusion of a study from research group JPR. In the group’s latest report – called The PC Gaming Market – JPR calculates that there are three classes of PC gaming machines and together, from Q3 2005 until Q3 2008, 196 million of these units were shipped. The study also estimated by comparison that 74.7m PS3s, Wiis and 360s have been shipped worldwide.

the study says the PC Gaming Market was only declining not dying and it's on the rise again.

Hahah, I got it for that price because it had been brought back as faulty, but there was nothing wrong with it. Works perfectly :)

I was gonna buy a PS3 but I only found one game on it that I wanted it for, so I ended up buying an Elite and selling my original 360.

Shame that Sony havent got the sort of games collection that the PS2 had :(
