AMD's newest line of desktop graphics cards in the making, Radeon HD 4700, will be launched in weeks to come. The Radeon HD 4770 model in particular, is the company's move to compete with NVIDIA's GeForce 9800 GT, while at some highly competitive price-points. Earlier in February, a sample made its way to Guru3D, which revealed quite a bit about the SKU. It looks like AMD's partners, at least HIS, is ready with its HD 4770 card, according to a press-shot leaked by Chinese website ITOCP.

The pictures show the card to feature a PCB visibly identical to the reference PCB candidate spotted on the Guru3D sample, while featuring a company-designed cooler. The cooler consists of a GPU block from which metal fins project radially, on which a fan is present, decked with a fancy shroud. Also pictured are the box design, and package contents. The common features of the Radeon HD 4770 are known to be: 40 nm RV740 GPU, 640 stream processors, 128-bit GDDR5 memory interface, and CrossFireX support. This card features 512 MB of memory. The price of this card is not known, though AMD reportedly set a US $99 target SEP price for the Radeon HD 4770.

Awesome budget card. Must be a lot cheaper to make than 9800GT due to 128 bit bus and 40nm dies. Should make AMD a loada cash.

+1 to that. Cheap for us and cheap for them :D

maybe with some volt mod we could get a 1000ghz core clock, mmm i can dream can i :slap:, but certainly a pair of these will replace my CF4830 setup.

We all know, AMD needs it! That HSF just doesn't look right...it almost looks bigger than the card is.

Why? They perform just about the same....

I'm curious at what temperature/wattage it idles. New die size, paving the way for the next ATi beast

were im living right now you get ambient temps of 40c or 104f so i want to reduce heat output and power consumption as much as i can, and still drive a 4 monitor setup:D

So this like what .. a 4830 revamped with 40nm architecture and GDDR5 @ 128bit? Looks pretty nice.

cooling looks the same as the 4830 except for the ugly, useless plastic thingy on top

i have do agree that the plastic thingy looks ugly but card it self is gonna be killer:D GO ATI GO

I wouldn't mind a thousand gigahertz either on my GTX260.

Nope, the 4770 is closer to the 4850 than the 4830, and it's much much cheaper

The design looks cool, i wonder if Diamond will make one.

Yes, I'm very pissed about that since I got the 4830... I feel like I've drawn the shortest straw :banghead:

http://www.techpowerup.com/89713/Radeon_HD_4770_Pictured_Slated_for_May.html No benchmarks, just ATI stating 4770's place performance wise :)

Im still thinking of 4 of these....IDK
You should give them a try. Volt modded mine today to 1.36v and have it running at 850 core. Im gonna try for 900 mhz here soon.

With 512mb of Vram it would make 4 kinda useless due to scaling issues.

And expect crappy driver support. As in you might run into a few problems.

Is this gonna be gimped by the 128 bit bus at all? I just got a 4670 about 5 months ago:(

GDDR5 at 128bit is just as fast as GDDR3 at 256bit apparently.

GDDR5 at 128bit is just as fast as GDDR3 at 256bit apparently.
Thats about right; GDDR5 runs at twice the speed of GDDR3. For example, GDDR3 at 900 MHz runs at 1800 MHz DDR; GDDR5 at 900 MHz runs at 3600 MHz QDR.
So, having GDDR5 and half the bus width pretty much evens things out.

If ATI is able to get Havok working with their cards, then I'm buying this.
